question for dvc members

How do you become a member of a DVC. Are there good discounts?

To become a DVC member, you buy into the DVC timeshare. SSR is the resort currently on offer and it look beautiful; plus you get 50 yrs of use out of your contract. The current asking price is $89 per point with a minimum of 150 pts, and then an incentive of $5 a point; so to get started it will run you about $12,600. You can get an information packet at: dvconline.com. It is important to note that there will be a price increase as of April 4, 2004, to $95 a point. 150 points will get you more than a week in a studio in one of the "home-away-from-home" resorts, depending on season (more in off-season, less in high-season).

I can heartily recommend our DVC "Guide" to you. She is totally no-pressure sales, and simply provides you with the information. She actually talked us down from buying 300 pts to 240 after reviewing our probable usage, saving us big bucks.

The discounts are pretty decent, roughly the same dining discounts as AP holders, but 25% off rack rate at the DVC resorts (if you don't want to use your points) and 10% off in the Disney Store (but not online).

I also have a question about DVC ownership. If you don't mind, what type of extra fees do you pay on an annual basis? I'm sure there must be some maintenance fees or some type of annual fee, is this correct? If you don't want to post about any fees, I understand...no problem....just curious.

It seems like a really great deal. If you figure 200 points x $89 = $17,800 divided by 50 years of usage = $356 per year....plus...if you don't use all your points, you can usually rent them at around $10 a piece each year to others.......

I may keep my old car for a few more years and invest the money in DVC instead....lol

Hi,

Mom & I joined DVC in July! Love it. There are maintenace fees that you can either pay a little bit each month (what we do) or a lump sum @ the end of the year. The maintence fees vary by resort. We pay I believe $4.17 per point @ BCV. Good luck!!

Tinkgrl is right. $3.88 per point covers maintnenance fees if you buy at SSR; mine are $4.25 per point bcs my home resort is BWV, and other home resorts are different (but SSR is the only one on offer right now direct from DVC).

So my annual maintenance fees for my 240 BWV pts are a little more than $1,000; but of course these same points are covering a long weekend (5 nights) in a gorgeous ocean view Inn Room at VB as well as nearly a week in a 2BR on October at BWV. If you are staying in the Home-Away-from-Home, Deluxe or even Moderate WDW hotels, we have found that owning DVC is a great deal.
