Question for CMs

We are taking our twin DDs to WDW for the first time in 9 years next summer. They will be 14. They have heard stories about how often CMs are mistreated. Since many CMs are not allowed to accept tips, we want to spread some magic to the CMs and let them know that we appreciate them.

My DDs are considering making buttons or business size cards to hand out to CMs that say "Thanks for making our trip magical." or "You are awesome." How can we make a CMs day?

Report the very good ones to Guest Services by name.

We will definitely be reporting to Guest Services. We also want to show our appreciation on the spot.
Just talking the time to tell them how much you appreciate their work is enough. The cards are a good idea, maybe if your kids have autograph books have the CM sign them, make them feel special. During the holidays we carry small candy canes and give it to the CM.

Fill out the CM appreciation cards. I do believe when they get these they can get extra snacks/drinks backstage for free and it looks good on them to their bosses. If I was a CM, since they can't accept tips, guests filling out the cards would be the next best thing

Just be polite, smile, say please and thank you.

While I think your heart is in the right place, what would they do with buttons? They can't wear them when on stage. And I think a smile and a verbal thank you would be more appreciated than a printed card. And the CM appreciation card at GR, which goes on their record and is seen by their managers, is a VERY nice thing to do.

As a former CM: all of the above are awesome. And definitely stop by Guest Relations to mention exceptional service.

I think your idea to make buttons or cards are fantastic. They may not be able to display them on stage, but they certainly appreciate the keepsakes. I have a few myself. :)

We had buisness cards printed saying thank you a trip or two back & it caught a lot of CMs off guard but then they were really happy when they realized what it was. There was one at Epcot who gave us hugs & talked to us for 10 minutes or so when we were waiting for a meet & greet. That alone made it worth it.

I wish I knew how to let Guest Relations know about a CM when I don't know his or her name. The last time I rode ToT the CM that took us into the library was absolutely awesome and I had no idea how to let him or anyone else know how great he did. And the female gangster on the GMR was the BEST gangster I'd ever seen in all the times I've ridden it. If I wrote the time, date, and ride, could they figure out who the CM was? I really wanted to let both of them know how awesome I thought they were, but had no clue how to do so.

As one of the PP's said, just tell them how much you appreciate them. If somebody does something really nice make a note of their name, the approximate time and where in the park you were. Then either stop at Guest Relations on the way out of the park or send mail to WDW guest relations with a brief description of what they did. This praise will find its way to the CM's supervisor who will recognize them with their peers and it will go in the CM's personnel file where it will be reviewed when they apply for promotions or other jobs.

Yes, that will generally work. The yhave a good handle on who is working where and when. A very brief physical description helps a lot also.

Last trip with my sister in law, she was very conscientious of stopping and writing recommendations on the way out. She would take selfies with the cast member to remember their names. It was cute for her to ask for selfies but would be creepy for me to do. She is 33 but acted like a 9 year old it, it was a fun trip.

I love this idea and wish I had thought of it!

We made cute thank you cards with our names, hometown and trip blog on one side and then a thank you note on the other.
We also were very polite with every CM and said thank you to all of them! That is how you should treat anyone!

One of the best ways is to note great CM's before you leave the park at guest services. Remember their names, locations, times, what was so good.

In lieu of that, use guest communications email to share the same information.

Absolutely the best thing to do Dan!!! I've stopped at GS several times. The really funny thing is that when I get up to the counter, and the CM asks what they can do for me, and I tell them I want to make a CM report, they always get white, and their mood subtly changes...I watch for it. They pull out the complaint card and ask me what the issue was. When I tell them that I'm not there for a complaint, but a compliment, the visual relief is almost funny. They always tell me how nice it is to have a guest say something wonderful about the CMs!!!
So, yes, stop off at GS. That compliment card will be noted in the CM's file, as well as go to their manager. I remember one time my friend and I rode ToT, just as the park closed...late!!! The CM there, who puts you on the elevator, was exceptional. I do a lot of theater, as does my dd. I tell her all the time that even though she's done a show 8 times, she needs to keep it fresh because there is someone in that audience that has never seen the show, and they deserve the best experience possible. So, when this young lady behaved as if we were the first run of the day? Incredible! She was great...actually one of the bests ToT CMs I've seen. So to be that great, at park closing, was really impressive. We stopped, as we exited, and asked to speak to a manager. He promptly came over, with, again, a look of concern. We told him about this CM, giving her name (which we both checked out!!). He was so appreciative, and thanked us profusely.
So, please, give that compliment to someone in authority. Sure, it's nice to hand out compliment cards to the CM at the time, but to have something officially noted in their file? Hugely beneficial.

We make a point to stop in after a few days in the park & leave names of awesome CMs as well, especially the ones that we notice after visiting the same parks multiple times per trip.
