I have a question for all you Moderate Resort Hoppers. Which Moderates have you stayed at? Out of the ones you've stayed at which did you like the best and why?

Our story is that 4 of us will be going in February 2014 and staying in 2 rooms. I've been loads of times and mostly stayed in Deluxe and Deluxe Villas but the other 3 are newbies. We'll be staying Moderate and I am just trying to get some ideas.

Thanks in advance!

As far as mods go, we've stayed at CSR, POR and POFQ. POFQ is our fave. It's a very small, quiet resort - and we go in early August when it's pretty darn crowded. The small size makes all buildings very close to the resort amenitites (bus stops, food court, pool, water ferry to DTD, etc.) The food court has a lot of offerings (and yummy beignets :) ), the bus service was great (and they share the bus with POR, but POFQ is 1st to be picked up and 1st to get dropped off,) the pool isn't huge, but it is adequate with a small slide and it was never really busy. POR was our favorite until we tried POFQ. So when we stay moderate, we will always choose POFQ!

Thanks Diznee! I'm seriously considering POFQ. Just wanted to check in with others to see which their favorites were and why. Thanks again!

I have stayed at least 2times at all four moderates and once at FW Cabin.

Each one has a strong fan base so you can't go wrong. Who is fussy in your group? I usually show pics to that person and let them help decide. All 4 have good food, pools hot tubs etc. CB only has double beds but some remodeling is going on so check on that if needed. My personal fav is CSR. As a manger once told me, " due to conventioneers, they keep this resort as close to a deluxe as possible even thou price is same as other moderates".

I am fortunate enough that I have been to all four in the last 2years and had a great stay each time. You can't go wrong! So have fun planning and have a great trip:)

We've stayed at all of the mods ... my personal ranking, mostly based on theme preferences, is as follows:

1) POR
2) POFQ
3) CSR
4) CBR ... still has full/double size beds

WOW Trish! You're my Disney idol! If only I had the time and money to be able to stay at all of them! JEALOUS! Can I stow away in your bag next time?

No one is really picky (except for me) because none of them have ever been to Disney. I know....say what??? There are actual people who've never been to Disney??? I thought that was a myth!
The last couple of times I've been we stayed at BWV (twice) and AKL (once). I don't ever recall staying at any of the moderates so I thought this would be a good opportunity.

We have stayed at POFQ & CSR. We would choose POFQ. the one thing that CSR beat POFQ in was bus service. We really liked the size of POFQ, boat service to DTD & that you can walk over to POR and use their pool.

Good Lord Elaw! Looks like you've been so many times maybe you should be a cast member!

I have stayed at POR 2x, CSR 2x and the Cabins.
I was booked at POFQ but switched to CBR for our upcoming trip. The food court menu at POFQ wasn't going to work for us, and I really wanted more than one pool option for an August trip. I'd happily try POFQ but more likely in the winter when the pool wasn't such a big deal because my slide loving ds wouldn't be happy with the small slide.

CSR is wonderful, as is POR. I would happily stay at either one of them again. One thing with CSR was we were there for a massive convention that took over the whole resort and closed down the pool. I couldn't wait to get out of there on that trip. But on the whole the conventions don't seem to be anywhere near the size and scale of the one we experienced, so I would just be more careful of when I went in the future. POR..I would stay there anytime, but wanted to try something new since we were just there in February.

Stayed in CSR, POR and CBR, you can see the number of times below.
Have visited the pool, food court and grounds at POFQ.

CSR is our favorite, we call it the deluxe moderate. Rooms are beautiful. It is the newest and I think each time they improved on the last. Main pool area is beautiful, large and never a problem with seating. Largest hot tub and close to longest slide. The resort is stunning at night and love to walk around the lake. Counter serve restaurant is different than rest to satisfy convention folks (who I've never seen) but great if you are on dining plan. If not there are several other options to eat there. Transportation is great, no sharing, internal bus and there is no long ride to anywhere.

POR is a close second. Last trip we were in Royal room and absolutely loved it. We've stayed both Mansions and Alligator and while I loved AB side when kids younger I think now I prefer Mansions. Quiet pools are very quiet. Ole Man Island pool is fun but even if off season have had problems with enough seating. Last 10 day trip we only went once but used our quiet pool often. Food Court there is great. Love the boat to DTD, buses were fine. Sometimes we shared and sometimes we didn't.

CBR is our least favorite having stayed twice and unless it comes really low in price (like it has to beat a value price) won't return. Simply way too large built around a huge oblong lake, even check in is apart from resort. I appreciate the resorts that offer multiple looks and styles and this is just all the same other than color. Each trip we have ended up driving to another resort to eat. The main pool is a great perk for young children but not to our all adult family.

POFQ, look forward to staying at POFQ when I can get a great rate. We've never slept there but enjoyed all else there. I love New Orleans and find the grounds very charming. Love the boat to DTD, the access to all the stuff at POR and the smallness of the resort. I'm not sure would pay the same as CSR or POR since it doesn't have all the amenities but it is very popular and well loved by folks looking for small footprint, quiet and ease.

OOPS, I see you have the Wilderness Cabins there. Stayed there and while I loved the inside of the cabins and the space, I wasn't in to the campground. I didn't like having to ride the interior buses everywhere, it took simply way too much time. We like wandering to the food court or pool and not having to get a bus. We ended up driving to all parks but the Magic Kingdom but it may have been faster to just drive there. While it was a snazzy campground I prefer the resort or hotel feel when I am there.

That's a lot to digest! Thanks for taking the time for all of that. I look forward to hearing about your POFQ visit as it seems to be pretty popular.

Good Lord Elaw! Looks like you've been so many times maybe you should be a cast member!

;) I've only been 10 separate times ... but we split stay, that way we can try multiple resorts during the same vacation.

I have a great husband who takes us as a family once a year and let's me alternate dd and ds on a mom and me trip each year too. Then I took my parents, sister and aunt each on a trip (split costs) in the last 2 years. My sister picked POFQ, my parents did CSR and my aunt POP but wants CSR next time.

I made dd18 a disney photobook MY MAGICAL 18 YEARS OF DISNEY for her grad gift. It was fun putting the book together. Of course I cried remembering the first tip at just one year old and our last at 18 :(
People always ask when is the best time to go? I say , NOW!
Dd and I like to leave a park and take a bus to a different resort and explore ( ex we go to POR then take boat to DTD , then bus back to our resort) , so have fun on your trip. The resorts are as fun as the parks ;)

My goal is to retire and work at disney some day. :cool1:

These are the reasons we dont care for POFQ. Food court is tiny, and there's no quiet/2nd pool.

POR is my fave mod by far. CSR is 2nd. POR wins cause of bike rentals and boat to DTD. Plus better food court and prettier grounds. CSR has excellent bus service thou!

Been to Disney 51 times stayed at all.the moderates and have to say French quarter is my favorite rooms are a decent size has queen beds and it is quiet. C.B. is also nice it is a huge resort and their food court is excellent but only has full size beds. My least favorite is Coronado springs more for business traveller and their food court is awful. My vote is French quarter.

I know everyone's views of each resorts are different but, here's my take on it.

CSR to me is waay at the top of our list. And here's why.

Pool: With it's beautiful landscape & and Temple and shear size of the pool, add in the fact that it has one of the most elaborate & longest slides...Also near the main pool, you have the biggest Hot Tub in all of WDW. Near the pool you have the Dig site where kids could play, and a nice bar/food takeout.... Oh BTW did I mention It's Never EVER Crowded.... PORIs a close 2nd in terms of pool. Nicely themed .very nice slide, nice ambience. a lil more crowded , but still plenty of chairs. POFQ to me is definetely on the kiddie side...NOT for adults IMHO...nuff said...CBR Is definitely nice too themed well, zero entry, but geared for mid to young kids as well.

Bus Service By Far goes to CSR...Never ever waited more than 5 minutes...Never ever stood to give up my seat to a mom or the elderly...Every bus I took was never full.. POR/POFQ was mediocre at best....Lots of people getting on and off...But the worst was coming back from Fantasmic at night.....H O R R I B L E ! Waited like 6 or 7 buses before we switched over to POFQ, only to wait a few more buses...CBR somewhere in between both of the other resorts...Good n bad..

QS Although I'm not a fan of Food courts POR has the best varieties & choices, but is Always packed, & then once you get your food you have to look hard for a table....POFQ same reason but smaller. CSR again takes the cake here, with the Pepper Market...To me It's the best bang for your disney buck....Good choices, plus the fact that you are seated before you get your food, is a nice bonus, knowing that when you do get your food you can Eat it while its hot...CBR...Not So much...Nuff SAID!!!

Rooms Both The CSR & POR/FQ appeal to me & have newer rooms, with updated things...Also all 3 of these have Queen size beds, which CSR's are the comfiest. CBR, although the pirate rooms are nice they are the furthest, and did I mention that they're only Full size..:confused3

Decor/Theming I know this is personal preference, so I won't go into great detail, But all except CBR appeal to me.

There's more I'm sure that I'm missing ,but That's it for now...
Oh yeah forgot to mention the Boats to DTD area a nice plus for both PO resorts...
