question: fireworks and castle

I have seen some brilliant pictures with Cinderella's Castle and the Wishes fireworks in the background. I know for when you take firework pictures, the flash is off, but how do you get the castle to come out so clearly w/o the use of flash?

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's because people use a Tripod or some other steadying device to keep the camera completely still during the exposure.

For any long exposure, generally those longer than 1/30th of a sec or so (some people can hand hold a camera longer and also some sort of image stablization or vibration reduction will allow longer hand holding time, maybe down to about 1/10th of a sec or so) you will need a tripod.

For night pictures of the castle for example you'd want an exposure of about 1/2 to 2 seconds depending on the color of lights that are lighting it up at the time and how far away or close you are to it. For exposures that long, it is physically impossible to get a clear crisp shot by hand holding.

The castle is lit by spotlights, you're too far away to illuminate the castle with your camera's flash anyway, and you'd set a longer exposure to get good "streaks" from the fireworks, so you'll need to use a tripod or put the camera on a flat surface.
