We are planning to go to WDW the first week ofOctober 2003 and stay in the BWV for 2 weeks. My questions are:

1)What can expect as for weather, crowds, etc during that time of the year?
2)I want to get a standard 1 br. SHould I call day by day of just one call exactley 11 months out of our check out date? I know for really busy times it is better to call day by day, but how about October?

Thanks.

Early October is a great time to visit WDW. The weather is usually in the mid 80's during the day and the parks are not as crowded.

We have stayed at the BWV in a 1 bdrm standard view during the month of October, 3 times in the past. I always try to book at the 11 month window. I usually call day by day if I want a standard view because they go fast. I would suggest calling day by day especially if your trip falls during Columbus day weekend and you really want standard view.

We are planning on staying at the BWV in a 1bdrm standard view for 5 nights over Columbus Day weekend in Oct 2003. I will be calling day by day to reserve our room.

Good luck and happy planning !!!

I also recommend calling day by day to ensure getting the standard view. The rehab of the outside siding has not yet started for the standard view rooms. I think standard view rooms are going to be very hard to come by until the rehab is complete. You might try asking the MS CM his/her opinion when you call for your first day. She/He should be able to tell you what the demand has been like and make a recommendation for the rest of your dates. I've found them helpful and quite accurate in their advice.

Good luck and enjoy the trip!

Joe,

Columbus Day is always the second Monday in October. So Columbus Day weekend in 2003 would be Oct. 11, 12, and 13.

We were just there the first week of October and it was great. It was high 80s (humidity was also high) and it never rained once. Although there had been the afternoon spot showers the week prior to our arrival. We were also concerned b/c of the hurricanes, but they seemed to stay clear of Florida (phew!). We stayed at the BCVs and booked at the 7 month window with no problem (of course, they weren't even open at the time I booked).

As for crowds (what crowds?). The day we arrived 10/1, we walked on every ride, no wait. However on the weekend and as we got closer to Columbus day, it did pick up significantly (10-20 min waits). We are planning on the last week of Sept next year b/c our APs expire 10/1 and the crowds were so low, which was ideal for my 5 and 3 year old. Of course, now they are spoiled and will expect to walk on all rides in the future!

We were there Oct. 12-18. We went to AK Monday, and we felt it was very crowded. This was the earliest we have gone in the fall; we were prepared for the heat, but we had thought the crowds would be light.

We stayed at BCV (originally booked at BWV at 11 months but decided to try BCV, so we called in May to make that change) and did alot of swimming at SAB. It was perfect swimming weather, mid-high 80s.

We went to MNSSHP Oct. 17; we are glad we did it once, but once was enough. We walked by incredible lines of people trick-or-treating. Again, we were surprised by the amount of people, especially considering a limited number of tickets were sold. We spent the entire day that day in MK, and honestly encountered less crowds during the day than at the party.

We may go again the same time of year, but it would be mostly a swimming vacation, too hot for us to hit the parks.

October can get busy with Brits as it's a school half term break, but I doubt you'd need to call everyday to take that into account. I'm sure that it's expensive to call EVERY day from Equador so maybe your best option would be to make two calls, one for the first week ( particularly if it covers Columbus day) and one for the second week.

Hot! We were there the first week in October this year. In the past we have always visited in July/August because my DW taught. (Kids can cut classes for a trip to WDW, but teachers can not. All the stuff that my wife bought every year for use in her classroom should have made it a class trip or a business trip expense - lol.)

We were told by locals that we were about 10 days early. Later in October the temperatures would be in the low 80s, instead of low 90s. The crowds were less than summer, but a little more than expected. Also many attractions are not scheduled every night as they are in the summer. We had to change some PS to make the Spectromagic at the MK. Missed the MK fireworks, but caught Illuminations twice. Not a big deal, but adds to the planning process.
