Looking to arrange transportation from Disney to Port Canaveral for our cruise and wondering if anyone has used a company other than Disney to get there?

My family of four, 2 adults and 2 children, have always rented a car. I used AVIS last time and thought the price was good. The lines at both the airport and in Port Canaveral were short. It was about $60-$70 one way. Takes about 45 minutes to an hour to make the drive from the airport to the port.

We rented a car and it was great. We stayed in Port Canaveral the night before and got a park and cruise rate. Loved it!

No, not everyone uses DCL transportation. Our family of 5 has done 1-way car rentals. It is cheaper and gives us more flexibility.

Many people use the Disney Transporation. It cost $35 per person each way. The buses leave from The Orlando Airport and Disney Resorts

As others have said you can rent a car.
All the car rental offices at Port Canaveral are easy to get to and have a free shuttle (as long as you are picking up/dropping off during normal hours). The shuttles run continuously in the morning picking up and dropping off passengers at the cruise terminal so no need to make an appointment.

The agencies that are near Port Canaveral are:

Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty/Dollar (same location) and Enterprise.

You can find discount car rental codes at www.mousesavers.com There is also a Disboard Rental code in the link below for Budget.

We have used most of them and all have been fine. Yes, there may be a backup of people at one or the other but overall they provide the same service. I believe they are all located at different location on A1A (Astronaut Blvd.).

I pick the one that has the cheapest rate for the time I need. Thrifty/Dollar charges a one-way drop fee but often they still come out cheaper even with the drop fee.

WALT DISNEY WORLD RENTAL CAR LOCATIONS WHERE YOU CAN PICK UP AT WDW AND DROP OFF AT PORT (courtesy of www.mousesavers.com)

Avis has a location at Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort near Downtown Disney. Some people have reported that this location was willing to send transportation to pick them up from a local hotel. If not, you can take a Disney bus from any of the Disney resorts to Downtown Disney. Get off at the Marketplace stop, then walk across the street to the Hilton. Budget has a location at Doubletree Guest Suites in the Walt Disney World Resort near Downtown Disney. You can take a Disney bus from any of the Disney resorts to Downtown Disney. Get off at the Marketplace stop, then walk across the street and up Hotel Plaza Blvd to Doubletree Guest Suites. It's about a mile. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Downtown Disney, which should cost around $5. The phone number of Doubletree Guest Suites' Budget desk is (407) 827-6089.

Dollar has a location at Wyndham Lake Buena Vista near Downtown Disney. Some people have reported that this location was willing to send transportation to pick them up from a local hotel. I HAVE ADDED ALL THIS INFO TO THE FAQ STICKY THREAD FOR FUTURE REFERENCE UNDER "RENTAL CARS"
Some people do a one way rental both ways. Others rent for the week and pay for the parking at the port.

Also you can hire a town car.

Here is a link from these baords it will list info on Town cars and rental cars

We've used Disney, we've used FLtours, and we've had a rental car. I prefer rental car but I'd give the towncar company another shot. But not a limo this time. SUV would be better for me.

Fortunately, there are many transport options to pick from nowadays! You can get to/from the cruise terminal from as little as $14.50 per person sharing to several hundred dollars for a stretched private limousine!

1. Cruise Line Buses– Operated by the cruise lines and their partners
2. Shared Shuttle Van Services– Operated by 3rd-party commercial companies
3. Private Shuttle Van Services– Operated by 3rd-party commercial companies
4. Private Limousine/sedan/taxi Services– Operated by 3rd-party commercial companies
5. Uber- Only UberBlack is allowed curbside. UberXL is also available
6. Value-add Service Companies- Acting as agents for local transportation operators, these companies can book any type of transport for you needs. They do not own the vehicles or employ drivers. Companies like Goportcanaveral charge only $14.50 per person one-way for a shared bus (same size as Disney bus).
7. Hotel Shuttle Services– Fly, Snooze & Cruise Packages operated by hotels and their partners. The port hotels outsource to 3rd-party shuttle services such as Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Travelynx Stylus, etc.
8. Rental Cars– Often the most cost-effective for families of 2 or more.

The details are plenty and too much for this thread but please go here for the complete descriptions, average rates, links and suggestions.

We have used a towncar company, DCL transfers and rented a car. DCL Transfers work great out of the airport. We did not like it from the resorts. Rental car worked great. We much prefer the towncar service.

We used Sunshine Limo for a private transfer between WDW and the port and plan on doing another private transfer for our next cruise. We liked being able to set the pickup time based on our PAT and not having to fuss with car returns/shuttles. Plus the kids felt super spoiled having a driver even though the price was really not that much different. We rented a car on the way back to Orlando. Pickup was kind of a hassle, but it was definitely cheaper than the Disney bus or private transfer.

what towncar service do you use?

I'm not the poster you asked but we've used HappyLimo numerous times and have been very happy with them. If this is your first cruise I'd recommend either town car or DCL buses, just for ease and convenience. By not having to worry about following signs and directions because you're either driving or navigating, you're able to take in and enjoy the experience and not be stressed. Just my $.02

We have used two different services. I don't believe I am allowed on this forum to say who. I believe the one mentioned above is the only service that can be named. I'm sorry.

Easy enough to figure out. Type out the URL of the company and click to preview your post. If it comes through, it's allowed. If it comes through with all asterices, it isn't.

http://www.happylimo.com/ is the one just mentioned. Mousesavers has a link to it.

We used http://www.fltours.com/ and you can get a link to it from wdwinfo (the dis). http://www.wdwinfo.com/transportation/transportation1.htm

Those are the ones I know of. :)

We have used Tiffany Towncar several times. Excellent service. We used Southern Elegance Limousine twice with the same experience. Highly recommend both. I used the preview and it still shows up so I guess it is ok to post. Thanks Bumbershoot.

You're welcome. This is the post that I got the info from. Not sure why that's only specified on the DVC pages since it applies to everywhere. It's also helpful just to have the whole URL in a post anyway. :)

We always rent a car. Its very easy. Once youve done it once and know your way around. Your set for future cruises.

Yep.

And if you're there early enough you can go to the chaotic craziness that is RonJon LOL.
