How many of your Black Friday purchases were items that you would have purchased otherwise? And how many of your purchases were items that you purchased predominantly because they were a great deal?

I happened to be in Walmart today while waiting for a prescription to be filled and ended up purchasing an Aquadoodle for the kids. But it was a purchase I had already been considering, not something I bought because of the price. Honestly, I didn't see any "deals" that inspired me to part with my money.

For the first time I went in with a list and bought just what was on that list(except the 3.99 tool set at toysrus- but it was only 3.99 !!!!)

Sometimes I really don't know WHAT to get the kids -
and the sales really help -
I didn't KNOW I was going to get the Resue Heroes car thingie - but for 9.97 my DS will love it !

I bought myself a few things I would not have - but I really need them so it is all good

I bought a lot of DVDs that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise..
And I bought that Fisher Price learning chair for my dd at WM, which I wanted to get for her anyway, but wouldn't have if it was the original price.
And that stupid light saber that my DH wanted :rotfl: I would NEVER have gotten it, but I figured, hey, it's $8 and it will make his day (I know, I'm married to a big kid!).
So, yes, the prices did effect my decisions :)

I made 1 unsceduled purchase at Walmart, it was the DVD player,Recorder as we were standing there the price went down $10.00 which made it about the same price that I was going to pat for a Dvd/Vhs combo plus Dh can convert his Vhs to Disk now!! Keep him busy for a long while!!!! :hourglass

PS I got the $398. HP desk top computer, too, for Dh! It is cool I'm writing to you from it now!! And the Flat Panal Screen is soooo nice. :wizard:

I buy more then I intend because of sales. While waiting on line at BestBuy I found a portable DVD and bought that. I bought more clothes at Aeropostle & American Eagle than originally planned. But I don't count that- I always buy to much clothes. :earseek: I also bought at Pac Sun, Hot Topic & Old Navy.

I did mange to go into Linen N Things without buying anything!

All but one. I bought the Walgreens Magnetix 100 piece set, although it wasn't originally on my list, because DS asked for it this morning.

Guilty  My oldest DD and DS both got a Gameboy Advance sp for Christmas last year, but my DD lost hers and I swore that I would not buy her another one because she did not take care of the old one. Well...she really liked it and played with it alot so when I saw the ones at the PX for $48.88 minus another 10% I bought one. I considered the Nintendo DS, but decided I would let the sp be a test of whether or not she was ready for the more expensive one, although she would've loved nintendogs. I figured with it being Christmas I can still claim to not be happy about her getting one and blame Grandma, Daddy or Santa for it showing up ;)

But everything else I planned and I now will not have to set foot in another store until after Christmas except for groceries :cool1: I even have batteries and wrapping paper covered.

Yes- everything I bought today at the disney store and penneys- I would of purchased on any other day. The TRU sale items were only since they were such a great deal. Can't beat that Rescue Heros truck for $9.99. ds got it last year for a bday gift and all his friends love it. Now they will be happy come their bday in Dec... :cool1:

I bought a bunch of stuff I would probably not have gotten if it weren't for the big discounts.

I had NO intention of going out today. I was at my mom's for Thanksgiving and looked through her ads. Best Buy had Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the Fox show 24 for $19.99 each (we had just spent $48 on Season 1 alone for a gift) So I talked my brother into going out. Got all three seasons, plus an extra of #1 so I could return my $48 one!

Stopped by TRU so brother could get a game for my ds. Came upon Harry Potter Legos, not on sale, but ds changed his "santa request" at the last minute (right before sitting on his lap) so I had to pick those up!

Best Buy, TRU, breakfast at Bob Evans and I was back to my parent's house by 8:00.

I did not buy a single thing I would not have gotten. I just got them at really good prices!

Yep, I got a light green Columbia jacket for myself along with an extra HotWheels set for the kids that I didn't plan on getting. And I'm sitting here with another window open debating on buying the i-dog for myself and SIL.

Overall, non-planned expenditures have been less than $50 (well, unless I buy the i-dogs  )

Not sure how to answer that one. DH had been talking about getting a laptop for awhile. Not that we needed one, but when he heard the price, he was sold. That's all we bought at Wal-Mart.

We bought a couple of VHS tapes for $1 at Big Lots, wouldn't have bought them otherwise, but who knows, DH WILL buy one when he sees a title he likes at the right price. I also bought a couple of Mickey Mouse watches for $5 apiece. I'll keep one and give the other as a gift.

Target, we bought things we would have bought, just on sale. I love those three piece pajama sets. I've worn out last years winter sets and bought three more at about half the price I normally pay. A couple of the Mossimo long sleeved shirts, I like those. Dh bought flannel pants and some slippers both of which he would have bought anyway.

I bought at Lowe's those compact flourescent light bulbs that were $2, normally $5. I would have bought those anyway, just not so many.

At Farm King I bought our BIL a beer making set. DH has his name in a gift exchange and thought he'd like that.

Sears, I bought FIL the Craftsman stand lights that were half price. I wouldn't have bought those anyway. We gave his dad a really big present for his birthday and said it was his Christmas as well, but I wanted to get him something to open and it was only $20.

Made a list based on the sale prices of the items I was considering. Only bought those that were a "good deal". If it wouldn't have been on sale, then I would've found something similiar that was.

Not really.

I shopped on-line at Old Navy and Banana Republic after seeing a post about the deals at Old Navy, but ended up buying several things that weren't really marked down that much...I would have bought them regardless.

I went to the mall after work and bought some clothes for myself that were on sale, but then again, I always buy stuff on sale...I hate to pay full price for anything. DH did get an awesome deal on a pair of tall leather boots and a pair of strappy heels for me at Nine West...50% off, and we definitely wouldn't have gotten them had they not been so marked down.

We did buy a computer tonight because the price was so good, too. I had gotten a coupon from Dell for 15% off any of the XPS computers, and we bought a mack daddy computer tonight for under $1500. We definitely wouldn't had bought it if it hadn't been such a good deal. Comparable ones at Circuit City, Best Buy, and CompUSA were around $2000, and the Apple store is WAY too proud of their merchandise. I am really pleased with the computer. It was a smart buy.

Big Congratulations on those of you who got the notebook computer at WalMart! The store in town I work in only got 30 and we had a huge fight this morning. Only had 3 cops on duty and it got a little scary!

It's a shame, that something that should be fun, turned nasty in some areas. I don't remember hearing this in the past.

I didn't go out for the first time in years, but went online and was pleasantly surprised that some items that the day before were listed as in store only, were now on sale from 6 - 10 am online. I bought lots of stuff I didn't plan on, but it was only the "free after rebate" items. Those I'll resell on eBay.

I told my husband in Target that if it wasn't on sale, we weren't buying it until I searched for a better price.

Almost everything I bought I would have bought anyway. Some things I bought specifically because the price was good and I knew who I was going to give it to.

I purchased a CD for $8.something that I had bought the week before for $14. So that was nice.

Plus I purchased the Harry Potter DVD for $5.88 because I wanted it. When I got home, my son said something about wanting it, so now it'll go in his stocking.

I did go a little nuts in a little family run gift store. Everything was 50% off and I was just grabbing things I thought would make nice gifts. I spent over $80 but with the discount became $40. I have a lot of little gifts to give so I bought a ton of stained glass angels.

It's amazing what a sale will do to you.

We always make up lists of what everyone wants and then shop the ads based on what people want.

KMart TGiving- went specifically to get games nephew wanted (BOGO), and I picked up a DVD for myself that was a good price

Walmart:
-got one thing that was on the list, another that fit for what my niece likes and I got 4 DVDs- bought purely because they were $3.44 a piece!

Target:
- Woolrich down comforters- mom & I have both been looking for a light comforter for summer and this totally fit the bill. I would have searched around had I not seen this great deal so I guess it was kind of a sale buy. Although I know that mom's comforter was purely b/c it was on sale- she wasn't searching like I was. We also bought one for my sister b/c it was a good deal. 3 queen down blankets for $75 can't be beat! Mom decided she'd buy me mine for xmas though :flower:
- slipper socks 2 / $5. had bought similar item at Bass Outlets and thought i'd try these out because they were less than 1/2 the price. WOW. You really do get what you pay for- these things suck! :rotfl: glad I only spent $5- purely a sale buy
- robe for mom- had asked for
- Family Guy DVD set- was on DBF's list, Longest Yard DVD- on SisIL's list
- Aero bed- mom bought b/c on my list

Kohl's- everything was on the list or fit the bill for a gift someone would like- except the cashmere sweater I bought for myself for $34.99 ;)

Michael's- almost everything I got was b/c it was on sale. Did buy a collage frame for grandma though

Macy's- everything we bought was something we would have gotten no matter what, we just got to get $10 off each piece!

Boscov's- everything was on the list

We just shop as savvy as we can, and throw in a few bargains for ourselves here and there. Although this year we did quite well- I only came away with 4 DVDs, a cashmere sweater, shoddy slipper socks, some scrapbooking supplies, & 2 candles although I was going to buy the candles sale or not. Mom came away with 1 DVD and the comforter I think that was it!

I love BF!!! :cool1:
