Question about wait lists....

My friend is arranging my DVC stay next month. I asked for the confirmation number, and she told me that since I am wait listed 1 day, I don't have a confirmation number yet. I have a cash reservation booked for my length of stay as a back up.....never want to be disappointed about a disney trip! If the wait list for the one day doesn't go through, will she receive a confirmation for the days that aren't wait listed, or is this an all or nothing type of arrangement with DVC reservations? Thanks for your help!

You should have a confirmation for the nights that are not waitlisted. If you are waiting for only one night, another option is to have her try to book the night you are missing with member services for cash, in case the wait list doesn't come through. If she can book it through MS for cash, she can link the reservations, so even if the points wait list doesn't come through, you won't have to move.

If any of those dates are booked, then yes, there should be a reservation number for those.

If, because the one day was not available, she did not book any dates and wait listed the entire time, then no, no confirmation yet.

If you are going next month, I am going to venture to guess that she didn't book any and just did the wait list.

DVC reservations must be canceled at least 31 days in advance to avoid holding points. If you would not be using the DVC reservation without all the days, then it would not make sense to book any of them until they are all available.

Sandi's reply makes a lot of sense -- I hadn't thought about the short time frame. Talk to your friend some more and see if my suggestion above will work. You may want to be with her when she makes the call to get any questions cleared up, and to give your credit card. (That's what I did when I made a similar reservation for a friend. I had to call MS, but she gave her credit card info.) Let us know what happens.

Unfortunately, my friend is much more laid back and easy going then I am. She isn't worried about my reservation at all- "just wait a bit- it will go through" she tells me......Needless to say, I am an overplanner and worrier.....so, if she does nothing to confirm my days so far, and my wait list for the one day doesn't come through, am I at risk to lose the days that are not wait listed since there isn't a confirmation number attached to them, or are they still mine and saved in the dvc system until my trip days come?

Unless she actually booked the nights, they are at risk.

So if she waitlisted for the entire stay (which is what she most likely did based on the 31 day issue and no confirmation number), you have no nights "saved" for you. DVC doesn't save nights for a particular reservation while waiting for other nights to open up.

I think that I would come right out and ask if she booked all but the one night or waitlisted all the nights because one was not available.

At least that way, you would know what is going on. As mentioned, if any nights were actually booked, they WILL have a reservation number already. If and when the wait list comes through, those usually come with their own reservation number and it is linked to the original one.

Good luck!

Waitlisting is never guaranteed. We've waitlisted twice and neither one came through. Both were four to five months out.
