Under the new system, when I call at the beginning of my week to reserve the week and some days are available and others not, what can I do?

CAn I reserve the days that are available and wait list the others all at one time at the beginning of the week?

OR do I have to wait list the whole week at once and hope someone cancels an entire week?

OR do I call day by day and reserve days available and wait list others?
:confused3

OR is there a plan D?

It depends. I am assuming you call on or after February 1 when the new waitlist limitations go into effect. Also assuming that you already know that you can call 11 or 7 months prior to your check in date and reserve up to 7 nights on that call. The old day by day calling method really doesn't help yo do much of anything anymore (except for those who want stays longer than 7 nights in the same room type at the same resort).

You can't book anything outside of your window. So if you are calling at the beginning of your 11 month or 7 month window, the first day has to be available for you to book anything. If that day isn't available you can waitlist for your entire vacation. You will not be allowed to reserve any days beyond the first day if the first day is not available.

If all the days you want are within the booking window, you can book the days that are available and waitlist for those that are not, subject to the new waitlist limitations. Beginning on February 1, 2009, you may have no more than 2 active waitlists. So that will limit your ability to waitlist for "holes" in your reservation.

Question, say her first day is available out of seven, and also 3 more, but that leaves 3 not available. Say OP gets Sunday Tuesday Thursday and Saturday. Would she be able to waitlist Monday, Wednesday and Friday or is that considered 3 and one over?

That's exactly what I'm not clear about also.

FYI, the scenario isn't possible when the 11 month window first opens for your vacation. If the first day is available, then all 7 will be available. No one can book a trip longer than 7 nights with one call, so if you call when your window first opens, either you can book the entire week or you have to waitlist the entire week.

It could happen for the 7 month window, depending on how the home resort owners booked vacations. Waitlisting for a Monday, Wednesday and Friday would be considered 3 waitlists. You'd have to pick two and wait for one of them to come through before you could add a waitlist for the third day you needed.

If you waitlist for consecutive days in the same booking category, same size unit and same resort, then it will be considered one waitlist. So a waitlist for 12/10 & 12/11 for a BCV studio is one waitlist. 12/10 & 12/11 for either a PV/Boardwalk or PV Pool/Garden BWV studio is two waitlists.

All the feedback from asking MS seems to say that you won't be able to waitlist the 3 days - only 2 of them. Once one or two of them fills then you could waitlist the third.

This is one of the scenarios that concerns me - especially if your trying to book on shorter notice. If you're booking at 11 months there probably won't be much of a problem.

The reason I ask is that I'm debating whether to try to book a BWV-BView room at the 7 month for the New Year's week.

I have OKW for that week and may just stay there -- it's a toss up because we seem to enjoy OKW the most but I thought it might be cool to stay overlooking the Boardwalk for once especially at Xmas.

(You don't have to tell me chances are slim any way and besides my wife may refuse to leave OKW.)

I don't know if it improves my chances to try breaking up the wait list rather than do an all in one

And it seems like a BIG HASSLE:
I would have to borrow the points to keep my existing OKW reservation at the same time so as not risk losing that room in case I don't get the entire BWV ressie -- I wouldn't want to have to switch resorts during the week.
Plus it is SO much to keep track of.

So I think I'll just do an all in one wait list unless by some miracle there is a BWV-Boardwalk View available for the whole week on the first day of the reservation. Or I just don't bother with BWV anyway.

AN OBSERVATION:
It seems to me this policy increases the chance that rooms will be reserved and waitllsted for larger blocks at a time, making it easier to get a larger block of time all at once when something is cancelled.

Also, if Sunday is the first day of the 7 month booking window and it is available but Monday is not, then you cannot WL Monday until the next day. If you back the next day and WL Monday, you cannot book Tuesday, even if available, because it is still outside the 7 month booking window. You need to call back again the next day and so on.

The ability to book the check in day and 6 more is depends on having a single reservation for all those days. If any day in the chain of desired days is not available, you cannot book beyond that day. -- Suzanne

A nightmare for the compulsive, addicted DVCer. Some might have higher psychiatry bills for the first year of this.
