Question about things you can pack when flying (wine)

Not sure if this belongs here, but I was wondering.
Can you pack beer and wine in your checked luggage?
I know it sounds like a stupid question, but we are not renting a car and I am not sure that their are "convenience stores" on Disney property that would sell beer and wine.
I really did not want to pay the $13.99 for a 6 pack at CSR (where we are staying)
I also don't want my stuff exploding because of the pressure.

So .. What do you all know that I don't?

what one can do and should do are two different topics.

Wine can usually be shipped easily in checked luggage if packaged properly. A good wine shop will do that for you.

Beer? we often see questions about packing soda. Remember, it can be heavy. Contents can burst under pressure. The luggage hold is also very cold, which can have a negative impact.

Lastly, no matter how well you pack those items, if they DO leak, they may just not ruin your clothes but someone else's items. I really wouldn't appreciate my luggage arriving spoiled due to your items.

Alcohol is readily available at all WDW resort shops.

Note that beer doesn't burst due to pressure. It bursts due to being shaken up by the handlers. Imagine the handlers taking your bag off the cart, tossing it 5 feet towards the ramp, missing the ramp and having it crash on the tarmac. Tough for beer to survive that. Wine can survive, but only if it's packed *very* carefully.

I was thinking we could just go to the HESS station for beer, but if I pack my wine in bubble wrap and put it in one of those large Ziplock bags. it should be ok... right?

The problem is, we don't have a car .. So what would be a 15 minute trip turns into hours!

I've put a couple of water bottles and juice boxes in our checked bags with no problems. I double layer them in plastic bags to prevent any leaks, but they haven't. You'd probably be fine with a wine box, but not beer. The way the airlines toss bags, I wouldn't put glass in your bag.
You aren't going to be paying that much more at WDW. It would be much easier to buy it there since you can get it at any resort.
Don't forget about the extra weight it will add to your checked bags. It would be cheaper by far to buy your cocktails at WDW than to pay for the over weight bag!

I have packed wine since the TSA decided it was "dangerous"

I am not sure I recommend it, but if you do here is my method.

1. Wrap it in plastic
2. Wrap it in more plastic
3. Put it in a hefty zip lock bag close tightly
4. Put that into another hefty zip lock bag close tightly.
5. Put the bundle into the center of the suitcase with clothing on the bottom, sides and top. (If you pack a beach towel wrap the bundle)

6. Pray it doesn't break and leak all over your clothes.

So far so good.

Last Oct...mother/daughter trip for my good friend and I and our two dd's who were turning 13 together. The moms do enjoy a nice glass (or three) on the balcony at night. Even though it was the Food and Wine Festival, we still felt the need to bring our favorite bottles of wine. We each brought one bottle apiece. Packing that wine was an adventure. First, wrapped it in a towel, bath sized. Then, wrapped that in a few layers of bubble wrap! Then, into a huge Zip-Loc baggie. Then, into yet another Zip-loc baggie!!! Wrapped it yet again in a beach towel!!! Put the darn thing smack dab in the middle of my checked bag....amidst all the clothes. It made it quite nicely, as did my friends bottle which she packed in a similar manner.
Of course, while walking around World Showcase one night, didn't we see the exact same bottles of wine at one of the Food and Wine booths!!! And for only about $2 more per bottle!! I just didn't think they would have my favorite Australian wine there.
But, if you pack it carefully, you should be fine...just don't pack too much or you will go over the limits.

If you don't have a car, perhaps a grocery delivery service is an option for you. Searching the DIS on this topic indicates that gardengrocer and wegoshop will deliver beer and wine.
