Question about the sun in January?

Is it necessary to wear sunscreen in January while at WDW? Does it ever even get hot then? Is it still possible to get burnt in Jan? OR... would a long sleeve shirt and a Ball cap be good enough? :wave2: popcorn:: pirate:

It can get hot in January, but not the high 80's and 90's that are there during the summer. I do not wear sunscreen in January when I go, but I don't burn easily either.

Just a warning ...

Heat has absolutely nothing to do with sunburn. NOTHING.

If I'm going to be out in the Florida sun for 7-8 hours a day, I'm putting sunscreen on my kids (and me) regardless of the temperature. The sun is not as strong in the wintertime, and isn't out for as long as it is during the summer, but there are still plenty of UV rays out there for all of us and then some.

I don't apply sunscreen in January. One time my nose got a little red, but nothing that hurt or anything.

It is true that the rays are still there and damaging your skin and you SHOULD wear sunscreen every day of your life. That is the healthy thing to do.

But if you want to throw caution to the wind and live on the wild side, don't bother. Chances are that you won't be uncomfortable. :)

I am very fair-skinned and burn easily, but I have absolutely no need for sunscreen in Florida in January.

You can have 80 degree days in January and then the next day have 40's. It really makes no sense but at least we don't have snow. :sunny:

Depends... would you like to get skin cancer? If so, don't wear sunscreen. If not, put that stuff on!

To prevent skin cancer you need to wear it EVERY time you are out in the sun, not just when it's hot!

Even skiers wear sunscreen if they know what is good for them. The reflection off suns rays off the snow can give a good burn as well as, in the case of WDW, the reflection off the cement, especially the sidewalks at EPCOT. We were down in January 2 years ago for 5 days. The daytime temps were in the low to mid 80's and it went down to 40's and 50's at night. I got some sunburn on my feet on the days we went to EPCOT. I didn't have sunscreen with me because I forgot to pack it.

I agree completely. Florida sun is much more powerful than other places. So you should use it.
