Question about the mugs...

We get one mug for each member of our family when we go. We also always get a new mug, but then we have never been there where the present mug is the same as our last trip. We get our money worth as we refill them as soon as we get back to the resort, and usually several times after. We also will eat a couple of meals at the resort, depending on our itinerary. When the kids were little, we would take the mugs with us to the pool, sit and sip from the mugs while watching the kids swim, then get our last refill before heading back to the room. When we stayed at AS Movies we were not close, but did not mind the walk to get a refill. When we stayed at AS Music, we looked out on the pool, so very handy.

I have told many, we consider the mugs as a souvie first, just happens we can get it filled as many times as we want while there.

One tip, I make little laminated tags for each family member, purchase small zip ties or the metal key chains and hang from the handle, that way each person can pick the one they want, not just a color no one else has. I think we tried permanent markers once, but the did not stay, the surface was too slick that year.

If I was tight on money or not everyone wanted the mug, we would get less mugs and share.

A very quick and easy way to clean the mugs out, even with dried up hot chocolate at the bottom...

Rinse the cup out first to get some of the stuff out. Then fill a little bit with the hot water from the coffee machine, this helps break up anything dried on. dump the water, and then use a lemon and rub the inside of the cup with it. Rinse out with hot water again, and you've got yourself a very clean smelling cup. And I usually use a paper towel to wipe out the inside to make sure I've got all the little bits of lemon out.

We use lots of refillable mugs. We have 4 mugs we use often from Race Trac, 2 32oz cups and 2 64oz cups, it's only 85cents a refill at most gas stations for for both sizes and can keep a frozen coke frozen for a few hours even in this florida heat.
I use the lemon cleaning often when soap isn't easily available.

LOVE our mugs and purchase new each trip for all of us.

And we use them at resort each morning...I usually fill it before leaving for parks ad then use one of those little metal clips and it hang off the backpack or in the pack and is then used for water thruout the day

We use it each night as well and on resort relaxing days....for us they are totally worth it!

Maybe it's not right... but I don't see a problem sharing a drink with a child. They're not going to drink as much as an adult.
We share drinks, not cause we don't have enough mugs, but because I'll drink only a few ounces during my meal, and Kari will fill it like 3 times during dinner. And if we go someplace that sell mountain dew... forget about it she'll go through like 5 glasses and I'll still have 1/2 cup left when we leave.
Plus most the time, if the child gets a kids meal, they'll get thier own drink.

First thing we do after checking in is go to the food court and get our mugs. Rinse, fill em up and browse the gift shop before heading to our room and getting situated.

I am sharing with my children b/c they are not getting a full mug of diet coke every morning. I have enough trouble keeping up with them through out the day.

The way I figure it, it's a personal choice to share any food or drink with another. The DDs and I often share drinks (even at home sometimes) but they're older and only want an occassional sip. IMO, the mugs are small, but share-able.

Heck, if you don't mind a little baby spit in your mug, you're probably a much more tolerant parent than I am - I'm sure not gonna find fault with it...

I was waiting for someone to say it's not right, somebody ALWAYS has to come on a thread and start trouble and post negative thoughts and get the thread locked which will probably happen. Yes, it is your right to say what you want but some people can't afford to buy mugs for EVERYBODY in their group. The economy sucks and families that are lucky enough to even go to Disney in these tough times deserve to save money anyway they can. Yes I do reuse my mugs when I go. Disney gets enough of my money when I visit and it's nice to keep some money in my pocket and not in Disney's when I leave.

Oh, ok. That is how you justify sharing your mug. I do share, counter services usually. But, I do not think that is the same thing. If I pay for one counter service, and share it between lets say my whole table. That, is a bit different from me buying one mug, and sharing it between my whole party. Don't you think??

When you purchase a counter service meal, you're only get a set amount of food... if you want to share it, that's your choice. With a unlimited cup of soda for the original purchaser... well there's no limit to how much soda you can go get.

I see it as to each his own. If you feel justified by getting a mug for each person in your group, more power to ya. If you like to share a mug, more power to ya. I can tell you right now that Disney is not loosing any money off a person sharing a drink. Coke provides the syrup for free to have it's name printed on the cups, all disney does is provide the carbinated water. Even if they paid for the syrup it's still pennies of actually cost to fill the cup. Why do you think there's such a small difference in price from a small to a medium to a large drink any where you go?? Most your cost is going into purchasing the cups.
So unless you use your cup all year round at Disney, you're not even gonna break even on the cost of the cup (12.99) to the cost of the soda you put in that cup.

Oh no... I just got back this week and I'd planned to be so good... Well, since you asked me personally...
NO, by my intrepretation of your reasoning, sharing the french fries you don't want at CS is also cheating the system if we use your very literal definition. After all, Disney must have meant for you to personally eat them all b/c they gave them to YOU and priced the meal accordingly. WDW sells fries ala cart, as well as seperate meals, kids meals, ect. If your kids wanted the extra fries, or their mom feels the need to clean their plates, you should have bought them more food of their own. The options are endless. I'm hoping when following this tour plan your dollars are too.

Now, if I were to stand around the fountain with my entire family the whole day taking turns refilling the same mug, that might be pushing it. In that case though, wdw would still be getting their money's worth out of my cheapo self b/c I wouldn't be costing them by using the free transportation, paper & ink printing fast passes, filling ride seats and sucking up air conditioning in the shows, taking time from others getting character autographs in 101 degree weather, sweating up the pool, using the pool towels, and so on...

What's really laughable is that, I've obviously been here too long. I'm almost looking for the dis-holier-than-thou crowd to come out of the woodwork these days when I'm at the world, spouting "rules" they intrepreted from random DIS postings...

I know it sounds crazy but, standing at the BC's marketplace soda fountain last week next to a woman from the UK filling mugs from 3-4 years ago. We go every year. I know what the mug designs look like. Heck, I've got a few of those nice ones in my tupperware cabinet but they're showing their age now. Anyway, I couldn't help but wonder where the DIS mug police might be...
Don't misunderstand me... I'm actually being serious here - this is a true story and it just happened... so... I looked around, she was talking with a CM. Holding my new 2009 design mug (which I intensly dislike BTW) I casually asked them both if wdw still had the old BC mug design somewhere on property to buy. Her response? "Nope, we got this one here years ago." The CM response? "The mug you have is the only one we sell now but, yes, the older mugs were nice to have with the resort logo on them."

Seriously, this board is the only place that people get their panties all in a bunch over less than eight ounces of soda after ice. If wdw really were all that bothered by a few refills, don't you think they'd say so? Put up a little sign by the fountain? Issue a sticker with your resort and dates like they do at BB or TL perhaps?
Heaven knows, they know how to print signs & stickers... and BC CMs sure know how to check id cards to issue an arm band when you want to use the pool. I am fairly sure it'd be just as easy for them to post, or enforce, one mug per person rules if they wanted... Oh wait... there'd need to be real mug rules in place for that though...

I don't drink a lot....and neither do a couple of my children but my husband and oldest 2 drink all day long so the mugs worked out great for them. We bought 4 for our party of 7 last year, and my little ones took water bottles with them to the parks. One thing that I didn't like is that I ended up carrying 4 mugs at the parks during the day....next time I'll be sure to bring a bag or something to put them in and hang them on the stroller....although I wouldn't put it past someone to steal those too LOL

The first part was tongue and cheek for sure. The second mug station story is for real though. As I stood there watching the old mugs being refilled, I just couldn't help but think what some on the dis would say if they'd been there.

Just wondering, would you have said anything to her if you'd been next to me? She was breaking the "rule"... maybe... there probably wasn't a time limit specified on refills when she bought her mugs though so it could be open to intrepretation.
I'm sure there are some who would speak up - and that's okay too. I'm just not personally that judgemental when I'm relaxed on vacation so, for me, it's more of a 'live and let live' mentality unless it endangers someone's health, safety or religious morals...
I am curious though, do you worry about Disney's profit margins enough to be rude to another in person when you're on property too?
