Question about the movie or Show RENT

I know this is an odd question but I have my reasons to ask it. In the movie RENT is the subject of DEATH,FUNERALS,DEATH OF a PARENT, SUICIDE,or a Person being Hung mentioned? I have a close friend who lost a parent recently he commited suicide by hanging himself. She wants to go see this movie but I dont want any akward moments for her.

Never been fortunate enough to see the Broadway Show but went to the movie. Most of the characters in Rent have HIV/AIDS and a few die from the disease. One character attempts suicide but does not succeed.

My brother committed suicide and is very hard for me to see movies and shows dealing with the topic. I was okay in this movie.

i have seen only the show, not the movie. i believe that the character April commits suicide (cutting her wrists), however that takes place before the show begins and is only talked about in the past-tense.

Yes. Prett much all of the above except the death of a parent. I dont' think anybody's parents die. And I don't think anybody is hung. But, death is definately a major theme, as is suicide.

I dont know if I am over reacting but I dont think she should see this....I mean shes really strong I went with her today to return the presents she bought her dad for Christmas(he killed himself Dec 19). How do I say in a sensetive way...."We shouldnt see this movie becuase they talk about suicide alot"

It might be too much for her right now. Maybe suggest something a little more lighthearted and make a date to watch Rent together when it comes out on video? If she insists, let her know that you've heard parts can be pretty depressing. If she asks for details, then tell her.

I wouldn't suggust bringing to see Rent right now. I'm a huge fan, and love the show/movie, but no matter how many times I see it, I always end up crying my eyes out. Because believe me, it is EXTREMELY sad.
I agree with the poster above me... maybe rent it when it comes out on dvd. because it is an amazing movie, but also very sad/death related too.
