Question about the "Inferno is worthless" rumor mill

So, everyone is now approaching those with inferno with offers that are incredibly low ever since the Disney Movie Rewards has shown inferno as a prize.

However, I am extremely curious about something and this seemed like the best way to try to find an answer.

I have a theory that no additional infernos have entered the game in the last 5 days and the value has gone down on pure rumor and "perceived" changes that have not actually happened.

Has ANYONE here received FULL inferno from Disney Movie Rewards?

Please do not post if you have a code that doesn't work, if you received 1x inferno, or if you heard that your brother's best friend's neighbor's cousin's classmate got inferno. I would only like to hear if anyone personally has received an inferno from DMR.

Thank you,
Dreams

Not that I know of, but not sure what you mean Dreams? We know they will be fixed, so why would you pay 4 stitch hats today when you could pay 3 firewalls next week?

Does it really matter if anyone has received the inferno from DMR? I seriously doubt that Disney would promote an item and then let people think they can obtain it then not.

Clearly it is a technical problem that needs to be solved. Unfortunately, user acceptance testing (raises hand for the job), would have benefited from this and allieviated any stress. But hey it happens.

Dont think that Disney would let people spend close to $150 on dvd's and not make the code what they state it is - multi-use inferno. I see your frustration as a user, but enjoy your Turkey Day and hopefully this will be resolved sooner than you think.

I see both your points. But I think dreams is saying numerically (Is that a word?) is there has been no new infernos in the game. But still soon they will be fixed but who knows how long inferno will be in DMR, if they only have it until Monday (Because of black Friday) and only 1 in 2 people contact them about wrong infernos still that is not many inferno, certainly not as many as pirate magic.

heh so would you like to buy my 2 star for 8 stitch hats wwe? ROFL

Sorry already got a offer going, pirate magic for 3 star. I still have bling magic, nice flips you got there :thumbsup2

I totally agree with Dreams on this, from the time that disney movie rewards had inferno available, people have reduced their asking prices (even down to expensive buyables). This also happened on here the first day the board posted about it.

Hypothetical situation: even if 100 new infernos are in the game right now

Does it immediately bring it down to bat magic status or less? I say NO. I can see it possibly happening a few months from now but not during the first days. This is assuming that everybody is choosing inferno over the other movie reward prizes.

I would like inferno myself but want trades to be fair and reasonable. We say that trades are whatever the two parties agree upon, which is true. But this saying rings hollow when greed plays a much larger role. :sad2:

For the record, I don't believe I've seen new infernos, though I know many friends who want one from movie rewards.

One last thing, let's all enjoy the holidays and try to stay positive when posting.

I think what's happening is people are offering based on their predictions for Inferno's projected value not too long down the road from now.

Example: when the Theater Set first came out, people traded a ton for it. After all, it said it was only available for a "Limited Time" or however exactly it was worded. Fast forward to now: does the full theater trade for peanuts? No, but you can still get one fairly cheaply.

I think based on people's knowledge of how the value of that theater set went down, down, down in a pretty short amount of time, they're offering fairly low for Inferno knowing the same thing will happen if it stays a reward as long as that theater set has.

And I agree with disvaclub and others who said it doesn't matter if no one has received the full use magic yet because they will, thus lowering the value. Now, it may take VMK a month of Sundays to fix it for everyone, but I assume it will get fixed.

heh, things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. You can't apply economic theory to this, because kids are the ones who set the price in vmk.

There are less red stitch hats in vmk than inferno and now inferno will enter the game at the same price as the stitch. The stitch is trading for 2 - 3 firewindows.

Here is a great example of things not making sense :) The stitch pin is worth less than a stitch box, which in turn is worth less than the hat. Yet we all know they were a set ROFL.

The magenta organ isnt worth half a clock and that was also a set. The same amount exist yet the values change! In this case, kids thnk the organ is ugly and the clock is cool ;)

and what about the poor ugly musketeer hat? ROFL there are less than minnie hats in the game, and it was released for 30 minutes less than a minnie hat was :)

aengus has put it in the best explainable way

But how DO you know they will fix it.. you never DO know in my opinion... VMK doesn't tell you what is coming out so why does disney do that if you are refering to VMK right now. this is VMK's choice to let out inferno maybe to help scamming go down but do you really know they will fix the code:confused3 .. just my opinion :goodvibes that felt good to get it off my chest

Perception has a lot to do with trade values already. The perception before last week was that Inferno was extremely rare, and the perceived value by some was extremely high.

Now the perception is a lot different because soon there will be a lot more Infernos in the game. True, there hasn't been any new Infernos in game yet, but we have been told that "they" are working on the problem, and can only assume that means Infernos will be relatively easy to get.

It's the same in the real world. Oil is perceived to be a specific price because of what the futures markets say. They may be futures markets, but that affects prices right now. When anything happens (we go to war, an oil refinery goes down, etc), prices immediately rise even though the current supply hasn't been affected.

Anyway, the virtual market is just reacting to what the virtual futures market is saying. ;)

Not that I know of, but not sure what you mean Dreams? We know they will be fixed, so why would you pay 4 stitch hats today when you could pay 3 firewalls next week?

Well, first, I would not trade mine for 3 firewalls next week. It's 650 points, we don't know how long it will be available, and I think it will still be harder to get than many realize, but that's my view.

Secondly, of course it will be fixed.

My question was a simple curiosity because it is a "Value" change that has occurred in anticipation of an event, not in response to an event and I find it a fascinating element of human behavior. People are reacting to something and yet the event has not occurred.

I liken it to the stock market. If there were a rumor that Bill Gates was retiring, Microsoft stock would go down. I am fascinated at the rumors (“inferno is not rare anymore,” “inferno is worthless now,” “inferno is everywhere”) that are everywhere in game and on the boards now when I have yet to hear of 1 person who has successfully received their DMR’s-issued inferno.

Disvaclub, you were extremely kind to me in my "early days" of VMK and for that I will be forever indebted to you, so please know that I mean this with 100% player to player respect. I NEVER said that people will not be able to get their DMR-issued inferno, nor did I say that Disney would not issue the code as stated. I do not believe any of that to be true and I am not sure how that was inferred from my post.

Of course they will have it, of course they will fix it, and of course it will be as advertised.

The ONLY point I was making is the following: Not ONE inferno has entered the game in the last 2 weeks and people are saying it's close to worthless. It is the PERFECT opportunity to see how the "value" of everything is VMK really is 100% abstract and based on not necessarily fact, but anticipation and talk.

It's fascinating to me. And I was truly curious if the number of infernos in the game has actually changed at all.

But I think dreams is saying numerically (Is that a word?) is there has been no new infernos in the game. But still soon they will be fixed but who knows how long inferno will be in DMR, if they only have it until Monday
Exactly.

..the virtual market is just reacting to what the virtual futures market is saying. ;)

Precisely my ONLY point.

Dreams,

I clearly understand your point. But as you know this news came out on the 20th and yesterday (21st) they pulled it due to the systems issues related to it, so we may never really know how many were ever received in the game during that timeframe. The release was incredibly short to measure that.

With the inferno release on DMR, VMK value logic seems to follow the pattern of the theater. Heavy demand up front, then decreasing value as time goes by. Again that is a perception of how previous value changes occur, but like Goofy Geggy says, all depends on the virtual futures market.

With my post, I wanted to stress that it will be released alot of people have been questioning that it is removed and wont be back, which does not make any sense with the $$ people will spend to use the rewards.

I have heard it is up and running by a few fellow vmk'ers. But personally I think this is a short thing, after Black Friday week maybe it will be gone.

100% agree

Glad to hear the issues might be fixed. I disagree though that it'll be a short thing. The Disney company, I don't think, gives one whit about whether an item is rare or hard to obtain. Not if they feel they can make a ton of money off of said item. So, I don't expect Inferno to be removed as a reward for a while, at least not until after Christmas. Too many people will ask for DVDs for Christmas for this purpose, and many people do not do most of their shopping until sometime in December. Just my guess, though.

It's not going anywhere dude ;)

Dreams, I didnt get your question. So my first post was accurate :rotfl:

What I mean, was I started with "not sure what you mean" ROFL

Yes, the VMK market is reacting to guesses of where it will be. I dont believe there has been enough infernos put into the game to warrant any move in value at this point. Its all speculation.
