Question about the DCP Character Auditions: Do they give people a fair chance? For example, do they give everyone a fair chance if they have people walk through the doors who are a little overweight? I can't believe I'm going to say this online... but I'm 192 pounds and it has been my dream to be a character performer for as long as I can remember. I have experience with dance and acting. I did ballet for 9 years, musical theatre for 2, and a combination of tap, jazz, and lyrical. I'm losing weight because I'm on Weight Watchers, so I could lose up to 40 or 50 pounds before my program starts on August 8th. According to a post I came across earlier, I am eligible for these roles:
5'-5'2 Mouse Height
5'2-5'4 Chipmunk height
5'4-5'7 Princess Height

Here's a picture of me if it helps:

I had my mom check my height today and I am right between 5'3 and 5'4. I know I can possibly be Rapunzle since she is the shortest princess out of all of them. I don't want this post to come across rude but I just want to see if driving up to my location will be worth if it all they will do is turn me away because I'm 20 to 30 pounds heavier than I should be.

Roooooooomie! ...Old roomie at least! :goodvibes I have a story that will perk you up! My dad works with a seasonal princess (and oh my she looks the part!). We were discussing princess and character sizes and she said that they have some costumes up to, I believe, something like a 12 for face and higher for fur. So even if they decide you don't have the princess "face", you'll definitely still be in the running for costumed character!

Side note, why didn't you come to the character audition at the end of our last program??

I'm in the same boat as you weight wise and dance experience wise! But I'm taller 5'6"-5'7" and trying to lose weight(I was much skinnier on my first program) ive given up hope on face but as said above, still go and try for fur! that's my goal :) I would love to be a mover, but I feel like they are still all skinner than me :(

Truthfully?

It doesn't hurt to try and go to the Character Auditions if you have one coming nearby. You have absolutely nothing to lose, and everything to gain. You just need to have personality for the animation part, and try to get the dance part down as they are going through it.

Really, since you have some dance background I would suggest giving it a try. Just don't go with high expectations.

Have a Magical Day! :smickey:

"Fair" is arbitrary. Especially in the world of entertainment. If someone doesn't fit the type that they are looking for, they will be dismissed. That is just the way casting for some roles work.

The fact is some body types simply won't fit into some of the costumes.

My roommate was thin as a rail, but had a large chest (graduation present from her parents). She couldn't do it because she couldn't flatten herself enough for her chest to not show.

Not everyone in entertainment is extremely skinny either. Some costumes are more forgiving than others.

Since you've auditioned before, you are probably aware that all auditions are learning experiences. You should still go. You never know. You have a stronger background than most who will show.

From having a theatre background, I can tell you unfortunately that if you're going for a face character, looks DO matter. However, that shouldn't deter you. You never know what they're looking for. As for a regular character, you have as fair a chance as anyone, as far as I am concerned. Break a leg! :]
