Question about the dates of travel

Lets say I want a week that is split right between Dream Season and Magic Season. Say, Jun 7-14, 2014. Which season do you use for calculating how many points needed for that week of travel?

You calculate based on the individual nights.

You pay Dream Season rates for the nights that fall within that season and Magic Season rates for the nights that fall within Magic Season.

The Weekly rate listed in the points chart is a convenience to save you having to add up the point cost night by night for 7-night stays. It applies only to 7-night stays that fall completely within that season.

Next question about timing. Lets say I have 460 points coming in 3/1/14 from a resale contract I bought. 230 of them are banked, and 230 are '14 pts. In 4/14, I book a week stay for mid-3/15 at my home resort of course. The stay runs me 250 points. Can I use the 230 '13 pts, and 20 from my '14 pts. Then bank remaining 210 '14 pts for '15?

I guess what I'm asking is, does the use fall in the year you book or the year you travel?

It's the Use Year in which you travel.

Your 230 points banked from your March 2013 UY into your March 2014 UY are good for stays from 3/1/2014 - 2/28/2015.

Your 230 March 2014 UY points are good for stays for the same dates.

Your March 2015 UY points are good for stays from 3/1/2015 - 2/29/2016 but some/all of those points could be borrowed if needed for stays from 3/1/2014-2/28/2015.

You can always book 11 months from check-in when using home resort points and 7 months from check-in when using non-home points regardless of your UY.

If you book through MS, they should use the banked points first, then current UY points but pay attention to your point totals just in case. Any current UY points you have left can be banked into the following UY at any time during the first 8 months of your UY.

Under your proposed dates, the answer is you cannot do what you mention. A 3/15 trip would be at the beginning of your 3/15 use year and points from 3/13 use year banked into 3/14 use year would expire 2/28/15 before that desired 3/15 trip. Move the trip back a month to 2/15 and you could do it.
