My husband and I are looking to stay at the Hyatt near Universal Studios. Yes, we could walk it but I will be 7 months pregnant and we have a 3 year old. We wanted to take a cab every day to the park. However, someone told us that the park will charge the cab a fee to drop us off, which we would have to be responsible for. Is this true?

No, that is at WDW. You don't get charged to get dropped off at Universal as the taxi does not go through any parking gates to get you to the drop off area.

I've read on trip advisor and other sites about the offsite hotels calling a cab for you and then that cab just charging you a set rate and a higher one than if you used a metered or a mears cab. Has anyone experienced this? I really don't want to pay $15 for what should be a $10 or $8 ride. I'm thinking of just calling Mears myself to request a cab and not asking the hotel front desk.

I stayed at the Hyatt this summer -- they have a shuttle that goes to the park at 9:15am and 10:30am, and comes back at 5:15 and 7:30pm.

I took a cab one day, too, I think it was 5 bucks or so. HOWEVER, if you take a cab from Universal to the Hyatt, make sure to specify you're going to the Hyatt Place on Caravan Court. I had a cab take me to the Hyatt on Universal Blvd., which is not the Hyatt you want, even though the Hyatt is Hyatt Place Universal.

I also had them call me a cab to go to Seaworld one of the days, I don't think the cab fair was much more than $10, though I really don't remember exactly.

I stayed at the Hyatt Place in August. Don' t walk it. It's not as close as it seems. There is a cab out front of the Hyatt for 6 dollars.
