just something that's been bothering me lately when i was thinking about the Swan/Dolphin...
i've still never quite figured out the difference between the following room categories that i've heard mentioned before:
  • Standard Water View
  • Lake View
  • Resort View w/o balcony
can someone explain the difference?

also, which one is the right category to book so that you have a better chance of getting a room where you can see Spaceship Earth and Illuminations from your room?

Having stayd at both resorts, I'll give this a try, but I may not be totally correct;

Standard View I would think is your regular room, without a balcony, that faces the front of the resort (ie; parking lot.)

Lake View would be just that, a room like the Std. View, only you'll be able to see some or all of Crescent Lake.

Resort View w/o balcony would be a room where you would be able to see the other resort; either the Swan or Dolphin, depending on which resort you are staying at. It could also mean a view of the Boardwalk Inn and Yacht and Beach Club off in the distance.

So, if you are at the swan .........which view gives you the best shot of seeing Illuminations?

View info/ Balcony info
Lake View rooms are mostly between the "fingers" of the building, with view of Crescent lake area, but a limited view due to the building. The Resort view rooms are more of a "wide open" view, with the possibility of view of the white sandy beach area, pools, or even Epcot. Standard rooms we describe as "non designated view", and most are on the wooded side or parking lot areas. The Swan "standard views" tend to have a bit better view (MGM ,TOT)than the Dolphin due to location. Front of either hotel is "Standard" views. Hope this helps people a little more!

Balcony rooms tend to be on the fingers or wings of each resort and in rooms facing the other resort. Balconies have two chairs and a small table. Balcony rooms 3rd floor and below tend to have balcony rooms right next to each other. Rooms over the 3rd floor alternate room with a balcony and room w/o.

Resort view will always get you the best views, as it is their highest view category.
