My understanding is the pool will be operational only some of the buildings will not be complete.

The pool and all resort amenities will be operational on May 17th. In fact the pool actually has water in it today.

I booked just last week through DVC and was not told this, we are going on 2nd October, now i'm worried !

Don't worry. SSR is going to be a big resort. It was planned this way. Like the post said above, just some of the buildings are not done. All the facilities are done. Nothing to worry about, just go and have fun

If you look at any map of the resort the first 4 building will be open by the time you go and are not next to the buildings being built. Here is the tentative schedule Building 1 May 17, building 2 in June, building 3 in July and building 4 in AUg. These four building are grouped together. The pool is by the main area where you check-in and where the food is.
The other 8 buildings that should be being constructed are sitting in a different area of the 4 buildings that are open.

I'm going in May and I will take lots of pictures and try to set up a website that others can view them.

Don't worry about constrution I'm sure you will see some but it should not interfer with your vacation.

Just wondering will one pool be large enough for so many buildings?

Thanks guys, still think i should have been told upfront though as we would have picked a different resort, i'm not bothered about the rooms being built but i want to have access to all pools , facilities etc so I have e mailed member services with some questions and will post the response when i get it, Traycie

SSR has been announced as a phased resort, it will be built in stages and will take a couple of years to complete. All members have been given this information in mailings as well as the Vacation Magic and the monthly Members Clubhouse (if you receive it). This should not affect your stay, as a matter of fact, this may be one of the best times to stay there with the pool complete and not as much competition.

Agreed Dean, the demand on the pool and facilities will be low due to the small number of buildings and therefore guests at the resort - it is the best time to go to SSR

thanks

Just spoke to my guide about this a few days ago. Everything is actually ahead of schedule at SSR right now and everything that was originally scheduled to be open in May (including the pool) will definitely be open at that time. I am going to be staying there during Grand Opening and I'm not worried about it a bit.

Thanks Guys, am a little reassured, still would like to get the info from DVC and would love to hear from happyrebster and Lori as to how it is when they visit.

Actually, two pools will be open. The main theme pool by the check-in area, and a quiet lakefront pool between buildings 2 and 3. A third pool (another quiet pool) will be added later in the area of buildings 5 thru 12.

Hi all, here is the reply i had from DVC
The entire resort, as far as accommodations go, will not be complete by October. However, all resort amenities, such as the pool, dining location, merchandise location, spa etc. will be
complete. It will be a fully functioning Vacation Club resort. The exception being that all of the accommodations will not be available for occupancy at that time as the entire accommodation portion of the resort is not due to be completed until early 2005. As of October we will have 4 of the 12 Vacation Home buildings available for occupancy.

I thought so. I doubt that they would ever open a resort or even part of a resort in May without at least one operational pool.

It seems like they planned the placement of the buildings so that the construction will have minimal impact on the buildings already open. I really think it is going to be a great resort!

I sure hope so, am thinking of changing over to Boardwalk ( stayed there before and loved it ) or OKW - haven't been and anyone who has let me know what it's like.

We are going June 7-11 and are so excited to see what this DVC resort is really like! The color drawings give the idea but not the reality of it. Hope to see some pictures from others who go to the Grand opening of SSR!!! Especially the pool and Artist's Palette.
Thank you in advance!

I had another reply re saratoga from DVC and they said "During your upcoming trip in October/2004 at The Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, you should have no, or perhaps a minimum amount of noise during the day while the construction continues taking place. The area which you will be staying at will be completed

Now as soon as i read that we would experience any disturbance i rang dvc and expressed my concerns, they didn't say anything to reassure me that my holiday experience would be diminished due to this and so have changed to boardwalk, we know we love it there, theres no work scheduled for october and we can check out SSR for next time, i'm sure it will be fine but it' s my first vacation in nearly 3 years and not prepared to take a risk on it.

would love to read some reports of those who visit during the opening, who knows we may change it back
