Question about renting/transferring points

I have 71 points I plan on renting/transfering. These would be 2006 September UY points. 2005 were banked.
Is this even possible to do and if so is it easy to transfer the points?

We are taking advantage of the free dining and by renting the points it will cover the cost of the room/dining.

Any advice? Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are the 71 points 2006 points, or 2005 points that were banked into 2006?

It doesn't matter for renting, but it might for transferring.

Sorry I wasn't clear. The points would be borrowed from 2006 UY September

Okay.

Borrowing points to rent - especially this close to the end of your use year - is something most people recommend against. If you run into any glitches, and the renter cancels, you are stuck with points that are about to expire and can't be "unborrowed."

If you transfer your Sept '06 points to another member, they are supposed to retain their use year and home resort characteristics. I'm not an expert on transferring, but I believe the other owner can then borrow them into 2005 if they need to. That, of course, would be their risk, not yours.

Members are not allowed to transfer points that are banked or borrowed. However, members may make a reservation with banked or borrowed points and rent the reservation.

I agree with Jim re borrowing points to rent. That's risky - unless you get payment up front and make it absolutely clear that you will not give any refunds if the renter cancels.

Best wishes -

Thanks for the answers. I guess what I'll do then is just pay out of pocket and reimburse myself after Sept 1. That'll only be 2 weeks after we get back.

The reason I was aksing was by renting the 71 points it would pay for our 6 nights at ASSP and take advantage of free dining.

Guess I'll just rearrange things.

Thanks!

Yeah, I wouldn't be in any big rush to rent the points. You have more than a year to rent them, and if you found someone NOW who was looking to rent, they would probably be looking for after 9/1 anyway.

You have plenty of time -- you'll just be out of pocket for a few months. And maybe not even that -- if you put the points up for rent now, you'll at least get a deposit pretty quickly.
