question about renting my 2013 borrowed points

Our BW points are in a June UY. We borrowed 2013 points for a big vacay this June, so now our next allotment comes in 2014.

Can I borrow my 2014 points in 2013 and rent them out? I need to scrounge up money to take the family to California to see relatives.

I have rented out points before, but never borrowed points. Didn't know if there were any restrictions.

The only way to borrow points is when you are making a reservation. If that reservation is later cancelled, those points would be returned to the Use Year into which they were moved for that reservation.

After the cancellation, the points returned to the account could be rented to others. They could NOT be transferred, as borrowed points caannot be transferred.

You could make a reservation in your 2013 Use Year now by borrowing points from 2014 and then cancel that reservation - enabling you to make reservations to rent.

I'm confused by this statement. Why could you not just borrow the points when you are making the reservation for the person to whom you are renting? Why would you have to make a reservation and cancel it before renting the points?

OP, I'm in the same boat. We have three trips planned in 2013 (New York City, HHI, and Gatlinburg) and I need extra cash! We know we will not be using our 2014 points. I have a couple of friends who are planning on going to WDW in October 2013, and they want to rent points from us. I had planned on borrowing the 2014 points and reserving a room for them. I also plan on stating in the contract that if they cancel, they will need to use the points before May 31, 2014, since I know the borrowed points cannot be banked.

Yes, you can do that just the same as if you were doing it for your own reservation. MS does not care who it is for. Just offer points for rent for some time during your 2013 UY and then when you find someone book the trip. But when working out the payments remember that borrowing is a final transaction so if you haven't received payment but booked the reservation and the person backed out you will then definitely have the points that will expire in your 2013 UY and need to be rented before that.

Hi! Yes, we need to get to California next summer, perhaps. Not cheap from the east coast! Gotta raise some funds for that trip.

Not true, you can start renting now. You are looking to rent your 2013 UY, which is available now. Since you can make a reservation with your June, 2013 points now, you can do the same with borrowed 2014 points. In your case, you might want to find people who are looking in advance of their 11-month window, and get a contract signed before the window opens. You don't get the money until the reservation is made, but having a signed agreement means your customer is probably not just speculating. That's more important when you're dealing with borrowed points, which are less flexible.

You may start now, but you are still subject to the 11 month and 7 month windows and -

So as of 11/12/2012, given the 11 month window (for your home resort), you can already make reservations that have a check in day between June 1, 2013 and 11/12/2013.

As of 11/12/2012, given the 7 month window, you can make reservations at a non-home resort that have a check in day of between June 1, 2013 and June 12, 2013.

All points use is based on the date of stay and the applicable use year, not the date you make the reservation. You never have to wait for points to become active.

It's all about the reservation you will make. Your 2014 points can be borrowed for travel in your 2013 UY, which runs from June 1st, 2013 through May 31, 2014. So you can call today to book a trip at your home resort for a time in that UY and be eligible to borrow the points to do so.

Yes. With a June UY you can borrow 2014 points to use for reservations from June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014. Of course the booking window kicks in so the latest you could book as of tonight is for a stay with a check in starting June 1 to Oct 11, 2013.

Oh gosh, in July I borrowed '14 points for a reservation this coming Feb! (Feb UY of course) You just go with when you can book a reservation (11 months out for Home, 7 months for not-Home).

I just rented out a number of Feb UY 14 points - they are borrowed when I make the reservation for the renter. I do make sure I let the renter know that if they need to change, it must be to a date before 1/31/14, as those borrowed points now expire in the 13 UY (2/1/13-1/13/14).
