Question about renting DVC points

Was wondering if anyone had any experience booking a room through David's DVC rentals. Good points? Bad points? Things to consider? Also, any idea on how far out you can book?

Thanks!

id recommend heading over to the DVC board, cant ocmment on his services, never used them...but you can put in your requests 11 months out for DVC reservations

I have booked 2 Boardwalk villas for Sept. 2012 with Dave. The process has been very positive so far. All reservations were confirmed in about 24 hours and when I go to the on-line checkout on Dave's site which goes to a Disney web page, everything looks good. Now I still am a little nervous and probably will be until we actually get checked in but I'm sure I would feel the same about any reservation. Dave has been advertising on this and other sites for several years and I have never seen any complaints about his business. His price for points may be a dollar or two higher than you may find with other people but I am very happy with the price I paid to stay at a deluxe resort.

We have rented through David and through several DVC members here on the board and we have always been very happy with our reservations. The two advantages of going through David are that some people feel a little more secure with the reservation since he is a business and that because he has a large inventory of points, you can probably book at the 11 month mark for just about any resort, as long as there is availability. (FYI, DVC owners can book at 11 months out if they own points at a particular resort and can book at 7 months out for all other resorts). The one drawback to using David or another commerical source is that the cost per point is a little higher. For example, David charges $13/point while most private owners will charge around $10/point. So, it really just depends on what you feel more comfortable with and if you feel the higher price is justified. For me personally, I prefer to save a little extra money and book with private owners, unless I am looking for a hard to get reservation (such as an Epcot resort in October) and want to book at the 11 month window. If I can't find an owner at one of the resorts I want that far in advance, I will happily book with David. I honestly feel like renting points is the best way for our family to stay at Disney and I am not sure we will ever book through Disney again. For example, we rented for our marathon trip in Jan and paid $1070 for a preferred view studio at BWV for 7 nights. Using the 40% off AP discount for those dates, we would still have had to pay $600 more for a studio or a standard room at BWI if we made the ressie through WDW....just doesn't make sense to me!

David does not have the inventory of points himself. What he does is match up members who have points and people who want to rent. The actual member makes the reservation, David handles matching people up, processing the contract and handling the money. I believe he holds half of the money until after checkout, so it's a little more secure than dealing with a member direct.
