Question about rental car drop off time

I have a good rate for a minivan from National. When I made the reservation, the drop off time was 2:00. Now my flight is different, and I want to drop it off about 5:00. When I called, she said if I change anything, my rate will go up $900!!! SO, my question is, if I am supposed to drop off at 2:00, but I don't drop off till 5:00, what will they do?

Most likely you get charged for 3 extra hours.

If you simply return the car late and you go into the next 24 hour time span, then the agency could refigure the entire rental at a higher rate, for example the walk-up rate for that day.

So never return a car late deliberately without warning.

Often the agency grants permission in advance for a late return although I never figured out how you would prove they did if all you did was telephone. In most cases three hours at the hourly rate exceeds the daily rate so they charge you one more day.

Try calling again. I was able to adjust a return time buy telling them my flights had changed and I would like to rent the car at the same rate I was quoted. sometimes it takes the right person. Also if you are part of their frequent renter progam Emerald club, you can call and to a emerald agent.

What time are you picking it up? Your rental is a 24hr rental period. So if you pick it up at 7pm then you have till 7pm. This has been the case all of my rentals. If I return a car late then the per/hr was enforced. Also keep looking at the rates and change it yourself if you see one online. I changed the last one I had 4 times each time I got a better rate or I had to change a time.
