Question about refillable mugs

Okay, I know refillable mugs have been discussed here more than Mickey Mouse, but I have a few questions about them!

I don't mind carrying a resort mug around with me since we will have a double stroller with us, so we will have the storage space, plus anything we buy at the parks can be delivered right to our room at the Pop so no need to carry around souvenirs (love that by the way!).

Where exactly can you refill the mugs? I know at the resort food courts you can, but are there any other places to refill them? And how do you clean them out? In the room? I will have a sponge and dish soap to clean my son's sippie cups each day anyway so no problem cleaning out a mug too. But do they exchange it for you or clean it for you, let's say, if you had a coffee in it and later in the day want to get a soda? Forgive me if I sound naive or like I have no clue about this (but I really don't!), but my only experience with souvenir mugs or glasses was on cruises where I got this gigantic frozen drink and got to keep the glass, but they exchanged it for me for a clean one. (I have a whole collection of these by the way from all different cruiselines!). ;)

Thanks,
Bonnie

You can refill your mug at the food court/snack bar where you purchased it during that stay.

We were at WL, so we refilled at Roaring Fork. They had a sink to rinse out the mugs, but I like to wash mine with soap and hot water, and I just did that every day in the room.

Okay, so I can only refill it at the food court at the Pop Century where we are staying, correct? So it would be ideal for getting myself a nice cold drink to take back to my room on the way back from the theme parks in the afternoon for our break to put the little ones down for a nap. That would seriously come in handy and I could have a nice drink without using any snack credits from the DDP. I just think the refillable mug seems like a great investment for that reason. Don't wanna "waste" snack credits on drinks, would rather enjoy the food WDW has to offer which is why we got the DDP in the first place.

I agree about washing it out with soap and hot water, which as I said above, is no problem for me since I am washing sippie cups anyway.

What drinks are included for the refillable mug besides coffee or soda? And how busy is the food court at POP at let's say, 2PM?

The longer you stay the better the deal, plus since 1995 I have a variety of mugs I fill with coffee for my drive to work plus I have one at work.

As said above you can only refill the mug a Everything Pop. I washed mine out using the hot water (which was much hotter than the room) at the drink station. In 2005 they had coke products (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite), coffee (I don't drink this but I understand it was yuck!), hot chocolate, and a machine that dispensed frozen coke (yum). As a dedicated soda drinker, I always feel that I get my moneys worth out of the mugs. Also, the mugs are great fun at home - I love to use them around the house. The food court may be busy but you don't wait in the check-out line. The drink station in August 2005 was busy but I never waited more than a few moments to fill the mug (they have numerous machines). The only exception to wait issue was the frozen coke machine often had a very long and slow moving line in the later afternoon and after the parks closed.

My DD (age 12) only drinks water and milk (so no new mug for her). But I always bring her favorite mug with us to fill with ice water or empty the milk carton/jug into. Last time we met one of the self-imposed mug police guests at EPop who tried telling her that she could only have the free ice water if she drank it in the small plastic cups from the register - not cheating using an old beach club mug!

Has anyone purchased a refillable mug at Mara recently? Is it the Year of A Million Dreams one? Or does it say Mara/Animal Kingdom Lodge on it?

We have two from our honeymoon back in 2001. They have a blue top and say Mara on it in animals pics. We love this one because it is big (holds a lot of liquid). We plan to bring them for our trip next week. They are mcuh bigger then the Million Dreams one we got at the Beach Club and the one we purchased from the WL a few years back.

Just wondering if there was something new.

Okay, I am sold! I am definitely going to buy one of these mugs! The memories are wonderful, and I never even thought of using it at home to bring my coffee to work! I will definitely be buying one of these on each trip we make to WDW!

Do the designs of the mugs change year to year? So, if we were to go back again in a couple of years and stay at the Pop, would I get to buy a mug with a different design on it?

Frozen Coke sounds great, but honestly, the coffee is a great deal. I love good coffee, but I can handle some that doesn't taste great to get my morning caffeine fix. We were having some coffee issues anyway, since there are no coffee makers in the rooms at the POP. So maybe what I will do is fill up the refillable mugs with coffee the night before, and place it in the refrigerator in the room (we're requesting a fridge anyway for the $10/night) and have iced coffee in the morning quickly before heading to the parks! We are doing breakfast in the room (bringing cereal and milk with us for fast breakfasts and to avoid crowds in the food court) the 3 mornings we do not have ADRs for character breakfasts and will need coffee before heading out!

they also have tea bags for those who want hot tea . My husband and dil mix the coffee with cocoa and make a drink....they love it....I love my coffee in the morning and soda off and on during the day....sit at the pool and in and out with the refillable mug is great....Raspberry iced tea also is there...I counted twenty cups last week when someone asked how many we had.....I use them for my cold drink during the day and when I had rug rats here to babysit.....each had their own cup and they knew which color they were......made it easy.....we would go outside and they each had their own drinks.....I also had my MIL and MOM use them when they were in the nursing home.....they could put the cover on and use a straw without losing any on them......

This gave me an idea...is it possible to fill my mug in the morning, take it with me to the parks, and at some point, rinse it and stick it in with any souvenirs I've bought and have it shipped back to my room?

That's the only reason I don't want to buy one, I don't want to have to carry around an empty mug in the parks with me.

Well, sure, but then you wouldn't have it until the next day. I wouldn't want to deal with that.

We just filled our mugs at breakfast, either ate in the food court or in the room and then one of us ran the mugs to the room while the other headed to the bus stop with the kids and got in the line. Usually by the time we all got caught up together it was nearly time to load the bus.

Then we'd repeat for beverages in the evening. We'd go to the room, change into swimsuits or get ready for bed. One would stay with the kids and the other would head over to the food court to refill the mugs.

When we stayed at the Pop, the frozen coke machine kept breaking down. But I agree, the cleaning station at the fountain area worked great. My kids loved the hot chocolate in the morning!

Last time we met one of the self-imposed mug police guests at EPop who tried telling her that she could only have the free ice water if she drank it in the small plastic cups from the register - not cheating using an old beach club mug!

We brought along one of those big cups from Great American and filled it each morning with ice and water from the fountain area before heading out to the park. We had a stroller so it worked great. We brought some bottles of water along to refill it and then asked for ice at the counter if we needed more.

Although no one said anything, I always felt strange. I shouldnt' have, since water is free. We still did it, and no one said anything, but I usually had my husband do it instead. He's oblivious to everything except people honking. (He thinks every time someone honks a car horn, they're honking at him. :confused3 )

I am certainly going to buy a mug this year.

This would not work - Items shipped back to the resort (not the room unless something has changed) are not available for pickup at EPop until the next day (around 10am??). Also they attach the receipt to the bag.

We get mugs every time! On the way to the buses we fill em up. In the parks we bring them to our table service and pour our refilled drinks into them during the day. If we have drinks left from our counter service we use our mugs to keep our drinks cold and they have lids. Then, when it's empty I hook it to my fanny pack. When we get off the buses at night , we stop for a refill at the food court to take to our room.

Can someone tell me what the suvinour mugs are like? Are they really huge and hard to carry around? Do they have lids and a handle and you drink thru a straw?

So there are no refill cups to use at the park only at the hotel you stay at? If you get a drink at the park they just give it to you in a regular cup that is disposable? We are going to be staying at Pop this summer. I haven't been to Disney World since 87 and this will be our first trip together with our kids...4 and 8 yo.

No, they're not large, about the size of an insulated coffee mug (maybe 7" or 8" high?). We always filled up in the morning with coffee for the ride to the park, then rinsed them out in a restroom and stored in our bag for the day. Then refilled them on the way to the room that night. Then I washed them out and let them dry overnight and did the same thing again the next day. Also, we would keep them filled if we went to the pool, or back to the room for a break during the day. Definitely worth it for us!
