Question about Princess Diana's engagement ring

Does anyone here know:

I was looking at pictures of Princess Diana's engagement ring (well, Kate Middleton's now, lol) and in all the pictures I can't tell if the band part is silver or gold colored. I was looking at replica rings and they're mostly silver or white gold, but I'm wondering if the original was white gold, gold or silver. (I doubt silver but you never know.)

It's a white metal, white gold or platinum. It's made up of 14 diamonds surrounding an oval-cut sapphire. It's very pretty.

Ah I never even thought of platinum! So the replica rings are correct. For some reason I thought her ring was a regular gold(en) band. I want to get one of the replica rings. There's one for $60,000! But there's one for $99. I just want it to be as close-looking to the real thing as possible.

I think Diana's wedding ring was plain yellow gold. The story is all the royal wedding rings come from the same Welsh gold nugget.

This site seems to have the best info on the ring. http://dianasjewels.net/rings.htm It says the ring is 18K white gold. That site also links to some very reputable articles and has lots of pictures of the actual ring.

I'd never thought about this until Mrs. Darcy asked the question, but after the other replies I went searching myself. I found sites with 3 different answers: Sterling (which I refuse to believe), 18kt. white gold and platinum.

Ok this is what I don;t understand. I'd order that ring right now for myself, but the band doesn't look like the ring she actually had. The band is different. Hers is a single band that's yellow gold and the one in the link looks like a double white band. So now i'm even more confused. I want to get the exact same (cheap) ring that was Diana's and is now Kate's. Thanks for the link, though. I'll keep looking. I want to order a ring tonight! But where oh where is an exact replica???

Oh does it look exactly like the real ring? If so, pleeeeeeeeeease find it. I'm in love with that ring, I love the British royals, especially Diana and I've become obsessed with wearing her ring. I want to order the ring asap and have it here for when DH gets home from Haiti in 2 weeks so that he can officially present it to me for a belated Valentine's Day gift. I have to find where they're selling the same exact ring with the faux stones of course. I can't sleep until I get this ordered. Told you I;m obsessed.

I saw a recent report on the news that a lot of these "replica" companies and ads are actually NOT true replicas. They were reporting how one commercial is selling September 11th coins claiming to be made from metal collected from the ETC site and that the coins are the only ones approved by the U.S. government, and they donate proceeds to a 9/11 fund.

The news report said that is totally untrue. All metal collected from the WTC is still stored away somewhere, and has never granted permission to this company, and that the only U.S. government issued 9/11 coins haven't been released yet. The only part that is true is that they have given a tiny amount to a 9/11 fund. Some governmental agency, has fined this business for their fraudulent practices. But, they just keep airing the commercial. The fines & donation they made to a 9/11 fund are like $2Million, whereas they have already raked in an estimated $11Million because of that ad.

I searched for a replica with a thing single band and the only one I found is made by Kenneth Jay Lane and was supposed to be sold as of 8 a.m. Saturday (I'm assuming yesterday) on QVC. Can't find the ring on the QVC site. Maybe it sold out or perhaps it's *next* Saturday when it comes available. Anyway, here is where I saw the pic and write up about it.

ETA: Did another search and found that the ring on QVC sold out, BUT...read reviews on it and people HATED the ring. Said it was so dark it looked more like an onyx than a sapphire. Sorry.

OP, here's some reviews of the QVC one with a picture. It says it's an exact replica, so maybe wait for that one to come up for sale? It seems to have the really thin band.

ETA: The band in the real one is definitely white, apparently 18k white gold.
