Hello,

We are staying at AK Kidani in a 2-bedroom in April. There will be nine of us, three families (one with 5 and two with 2). If you were to charge each family for the stay, how would you determine what to charge? I figure that I pay about $864 a year in due for 200 points, but used 361 for this stay. At first I wasn't going to charge anyone anything but my sister-in-law and brother wanted to join us at the last minute which brought the number up to 9 and she stated they would pay toward the room.

Really appreciate your ideas!

Thanks.

If your original thought was to not charge anyone, I would just tell your guests to give you what they feel is a fair amount (if they are insisting on giving you something).

This way, the amount comes from them and there won't be any question about the amount being "fair" and for you, its extra money you had not counted on when you booked the reservation.

Good luck!!!

How about having them pay for your park passes or dining plan if you need any of these for your stay.

I couldn't bring myself to charge family, especially if they were staying in the same room that I had already booked and was going to use, whether or not they went.

If they were insistent on paying something, I'd suggest they pay for a dinner if they wanted.

That's what we usually do.

They are our guests, so we don't charge. But everybody we bring contributes either by buying us a dinner or two or paying for groceries.

If everyone wants to split it fairly then you would take the dues paid for the points and divide that by the total number of people staying for the families with 2 you would double the amount as they would be paying for 2 people. If you figure out the dues on 361 points at the rate you mentioned the trip is costing $1559.52, so per person that is $173.28. So for the families of 2 it would be $346.56 and for the family of 5 $866.40. Since in a DVC villa age doesn't matter I wouldn't worry about whether they are children or adults.

Now- I don't know that I would charge- we have only just bought in and right now we have not brought anyone with us. We have thought about inviting guests for a few days this summer when we are staying (we already have our room booked and they would fit in the room). I wouldn't plan on asking them to pay anything as the reason to have them come is so I have someone to hang out with while DH goes to class. I wouldn't pay for their tickets or dining though- just offer them a place to stay if they want to come.

I once had a family member insist on giving us something.
I asked him to make a donation to his favorite animal rescue.

Worked out great for us, him and the cats and dogs!

We feel this exact same way. We also would not charge guests. We have taken guests with us many times now. We have always been treated to a nice table service dinner and that has been great with us.

Same here.

Thank you for all of your ideas! That's why I love these boards!

I agree I would not ask for anything if I didn't need to upgrade to bigger accomodations. But what if you did need to upgrade to a larger room or even a second room? How do you decide what to charge? Do you solely base it on the dues as suggested above?

I don't charge, even if we need additional or larger accomodations...I invited them.
