I am looking at adopting a dog from the local shelter where the dogs aren't well taken care of and it has a high kill rate. On the PetFinder website there is an offer for PetFirst Insurance. The rate is $14.95 a month after the first month at $5. It is endorsed by Petfinder, is an offer for new adopters and carries $1,000 of coverage and has no breed or age restrictions.
Not knowing about most insurance is that a good rate? Anybody had any dealing with that company?

I think you need to read over all the details, see what it covers and what the deductibles are in order to make a decision. For 5 $ a month, it is prob worth having!

Be sure to check what is covered. Many pet insurance programs do not cover things such as routine vaccinations, anything to do with allergies or pests (fleas). For a young animal, that will be the majority of what you would need to cover. For an older animal, I would definitely recommend it. I did not get pet insurance for my dog. He is now 13 and has a lot of health issues. I spend over $300 a month on medication for him. I cannot get insurance for him now. Timing is everything!
