I'm getting a pedicure for the first time on Friday! Does anyone know if they clip toenails during the pedicure, or should I have that done before I go?

Thanks,
Diznee25

Yes, they will clip your toenails, trim your cuticles and get the dead scaly skin off the bottoms of your feet. (This part always tickles) Relax and enjoy! I treated myself to one for mother's day and I am ready to go get another one. This is something I am going to do once a month this summer.:D

Yes to everything Pooh said and they soak and massage your feet too. I like the idea of doing it once a month for the summer months :)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I did a search yesterday and found several threads on this board regarding pedicures, it sounds great and I can't wait until Friday!
I'm just a little nervous because my feet are awful! The bottoms of my feet are dry and have big callouses (sp?). Oh, well. I'll have to make sure and leave a big tip. ;)

Thanks,
Diznee25

I love my pedicures also. I go twice a month, winter & summer. My Pedicurist (?) also massages my calves. It is heaven.

Love those pedicures...shouldn't have waited until I was in my 30's to get one (it's a feet thing)! I usually cut my toe nails before I go. Mine curve a little and my pedicurist sometimes has a hard time with them because they are so thick! A family thing...I have really hard fingernails (very beautiful IMHO)...but my toe nails match. DH calls them rhino hooves (how rude!).

You'll love it! I'm addicted! The girl that does mine uses a wonderful mint lotion that cools & tingles (my favorite part)!!
You'll feel like a new woman. When your feet feel good, so do you!:teeth:

That's one thing I find embarassing about my feet! My toe nails are thick (and hard) too, makes for some amusing clipping. :) I'm glad my pedicure is only a couple days away, with the way everyone's talking about it!!

I've read that pedicures range from $20-$70. My salon is kind of on the upper scale with my pedicure costing $47. I'm sure it will be worth it though...I go to this salon for hair cuts and highlights (not to mention eyebrow waxing, ouch!), so I thought I'd try a pedicure on for size...

I'm addicted too, and year round!!

That price does not sound out of line for a high end salon.

Enjoy!

It is funny I stubbled upon this thread, I was going to post a pedicure thread yesterday and forgot. I have a question too....

I am a very ticklish (sp?) person and I would love to have a pedicure, but I don't know if I would be able to handle the tickle factor. So how ticklish is a pedicure????

I am a mancurist by trade and this thread made me smile!

It is really unnecessary to clip your toenails before hand, I would prefer my clients didn't because they sometimes go too crazy and the nails end up uneven and shorter than they should be (ie harder to make pretty). A trained manicurist has the ability and the equipment to handle even the most thick toenails, don't worry about that at all!

People are often very embarrassed by their feet and it is usually with no reason at all. We have seen it all, we are professionals so do not be ashamed of your feet!

As far as 'ticklish tootsies' go, the manicurist will use a firm touch which usually does not tickle at all, if you are having a 'tickle' problem, ask the manicurist to be more firm and less gentle. Also let your manicurist know if you have circulatory problems or are diabetic, or if your dr has told you not to receive a massage. If in doubt at all, ask your physician before getting a pedicure.

One word of warning, be aware of your surroundings (sanitation)and ask how they disinfect their tools and foot bath. They should be using a hospital grade disinfectant and should be soaking their tools 20 minutes minimum. Anything that is porous cannot be disinfected (orangewood sticks, emery boards, paper products, toe separators, etc) and should not be reused. Some nail files can be disinfected but not all. It is important that everthing is extremely clean. Also, do not hesitate to ask questions.

My pedicures are $30, very reasonable imo.

On a side note: The most popular pedicure polish colors? French pedicure, OPI 'I'm not really a waitress' (red) and OPI 'Strawburied in the Sand' (sort of a salmon pink)

Most of all, sit back, relax and enjoy the experience!

Thank you so much for your expertise on oedicures. It was nice to hear about the sanitizing of instruments. I had one done once, although it was nice I got scared after watching 20/20 about different thinks as far as cleanliness. You sound like you have all the knowledge I would need to walk into a salon, ask questions and sit and enjoy a treat for myself. now only if you lived closer to Boston. :D

Enjoy your pedicure that are wonderful and your feet will love you. I'm a barefoot person and I give the girl a workout every month when I have mine done.

When you go regularly the difference is unbelievable those hard calluses become a thing of the past. You will love the way your feet look in sandals.

I just thought after your post Mamu, I heard of the radio this guy that was licking someones feet in line at the grocery stre here in MA. LOL :D

Yes it was in the next town over. The same town that I get my pedicures in.

I actually do lots of shopping in that town, it was the talk of the salon. Don't know his color preference , sure hope it not one of the shades I pick. Wonder if he has any teeth left?

I love "I'm not really a waitress" red. I've never had one, but this thread is making me want to. lol I'm very ticklish too. :)

my sister is getting married on june 21...i think that a few of the bridal party wants to get together and go for manicures and pedicures the day before...and then we have those hydromassage thingies in our mall...we all wanted a massage, but i think that will be the only way to afford them!!

I wish I could handle this but I personally cannot imagine letting a stranger mess with my feet. GROSS!

(Can you help me get past this so I can enjoy this thing that so many of you think is heavenly?)

They have a callus scraper that will cut off the dead thick skin and make them smooth. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt at all. My favorite part is the massage. The nail place I go to has the deep kneading reclining massage chairs that look like thrones and a spa tub you put your feet in. It is heavenly.:)

I do think that $ 47.00 is WAY to steep for a pedicure, I only pay $ 18.00 + tip.
