It is really unnecessary to clip your toenails before hand, I would prefer my clients didn't because they sometimes go too crazy and the nails end up uneven and shorter than they should be (ie harder to make pretty). A trained manicurist has the ability and the equipment to handle even the most thick toenails, don't worry about that at all!
People are often very embarrassed by their feet and it is usually with no reason at all. We have seen it all, we are professionals so do not be ashamed of your feet!
As far as 'ticklish tootsies' go, the manicurist will use a firm touch which usually does not tickle at all, if you are having a 'tickle' problem, ask the manicurist to be more firm and less gentle. Also let your manicurist know if you have circulatory problems or are diabetic, or if your dr has told you not to receive a massage. If in doubt at all, ask your physician before getting a pedicure.
One word of warning, be aware of your surroundings (sanitation)and ask how they disinfect their tools and foot bath. They should be using a hospital grade disinfectant and should be soaking their tools 20 minutes minimum. Anything that is porous cannot be disinfected (orangewood sticks, emery boards, paper products, toe separators, etc) and should not be reused. Some nail files can be disinfected but not all. It is important that everthing is extremely clean. Also, do not hesitate to ask questions.
My pedicures are $30, very reasonable imo.
On a side note: The most popular pedicure polish colors? French pedicure, OPI 'I'm not really a waitress' (red) and OPI 'Strawburied in the Sand' (sort of a salmon pink)
Most of all, sit back, relax and enjoy the experience!
