Hi all- I have a question.

Background: We go every year so I know that there is a ton of walking and standing. We (me, DH, my parents, dd-4 yo) stay off-site and get two rental cars. I recently had surgery for a herninated disc, I am no longer in pain (yea) but I am still gettting a lot of muscle pull in my back and fatigue & soreness sets in fast! I am also having problems that I am putting all my weight on one leg when standing still and leaning to my left (hopefully they will order PT this week), pre-surgery I could barely walk on my right leg for 3-4 weeks and it just completely changed the way I walk and stand. We leave of Disney on the 26th and my Mom said if I want to take it easy and rest in the parks no problem, she will hang out with me... but of course I want to try and see as much as possible.

So, I am trying to cut down on any unnecessary extra walking/standing, will they let me either park my car closer or at the beginning of a row so I am close to the tram? It never fails, we are always the last car in a row-lol. Also, any tips on just cutting back on walking and standing? I assume my family can't wait to get on a ride while I sit, then join them since it is considered line jumping. I am bringing my DD's stroller, it feels a little better when I can lean on something. I would love to hear any tips.... Thanks!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

First thing is the general recommendation for people with stamina and/or mobility probems is to rent a wheelchair or ECV. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #3 discusses mobioity and rental sources.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

You might also check out http://www.mass.gov/rmv/medical/parkingFAQ4cus.htm and get a temporary hang tag to allow use of the Disnabled Parking areas. If you are unable to get a hang tag, when you get to the parking tell the person directing that you need a close-in space and they will tell you how it is handled and direct you.

I have herniated and bulging discs and found that renting an ECV has saved me! I no longer have to take Vicodin at bedtime because of severe pain from all the walking in WDW. I highly recommend renting an ECV. If you are on site I personally like Walker medical but their ECVs don't break down as easily as others do. For offsite I like Randy's since their scooters break down really easily and fit into the trunk with ease.

I would look at Apple Scooters for an ECV. They tend to be cheaper than most of the other off-site places and their scooters are nice and easy to break down and fit in a trunk.

I personally have the Go-Go style that they offer and can tell you from experience that that is a nice little scooter that one person can easilly break down and handle.

Take a look at that site.

I am sure that if you don't want to ride the scooter the whole time, one of the other adults in your group would ride it for a while.
