Question about park hopper pass

Ok, I really hope I don't get flamed for this, but I just thought of a way i may be able to save my family money and was curious if anyone has tried it, if it would work, etc.

I was looking at the prices for a 5 day park hopper pass. It seems as though I could save a lot of money if we just purchased a few extra "One park a day" passes instead, and used them to "park hop" to another park a few times during our stay. We would end up using two tickets each day. I hope I am explaining it ok. We could then go to 2 parks a day for 2 or 3 days during our stay and still save quite a bit of money. Does anyone know if this would work?

If not, that's fine too, we were planning on just buying 5 day hoppers anyway...
Thanks for your help.

How could you possibly SAVE MONEY buying a bunch of SINGLE DAY tickets?

You always save money, the more day's PER TICKET you buy.

If you are asking if you can use "two days" of a non-hopper ticket to "hop", the answer is no.
Once a non-hopper ticket is used at one park, you can't use "another day's admission" on that ticket to hop to another park on that SAME day.

If you are buying a 5 day ticket and plan to hop even one day, then buy the park hopper.

5 day ticket no hopping = $199
5 day ticket with hopping = $234

Wouldn't make sense to buy an additional 1 day ticket instead of adding park hopping. :confused3

I'm not following the logic in this either. As I understand it, you intend to buy 1-day base passes to be used to "hop" by using a new pass when you want to "hop" to a different park within a single day.

6 adult 1-day MYW Base passes would cost 6 X $67.10 ($402.60)
A single 3-day Hopper (expiry) would cost $235.37

How would purchasing the 1-day passes be a better deal?

Ok, I knew this was not going to be a popular thread, or that this idea would not go over very well.

Here's my thought, and I was just wondering if it would work.

I was looking at prices on the disney website and base tickets go down in price the more days you purchase. I realized that buying more base tickets without the hopper feature was less then buying fewer hopper tickets. So I was just simply wondering if you could use two base tickets in one day. As an example if I bought an 8 day base ticket, I would have 3 "extra" tickets to use during my five day stay and could then do 2 parks each day for 3 of those days. Here's how I broke it down:

For 5 adult tickets:
5 day Park Hopper is 46.80pp/per day = 1170.00
vs.
8 day base ticket is 25.75pp/per day = 1030.00

No big deal, it was just a question....

It's no big deal, you're not trying to do anything wrong, you're not going to get flamed...

But it's as Robo said: if you have a "non-park hopping" ticket, you can only use ONE of those days at a time. For example, if the first day of your trip is on July 1, and you decide to go to MK, you can't go anywhere else on July 1- you can't use "day 2" of your ticket to go somewhere else (Epcot, MGM, or AK) on July 1.

As you said, adding extra days to the end of your ticket is cheap. Everyone would do this instead of paying more money for a park hopper, if it was allowed.

When you use a non-hopping ticket at WDW, the computers know it, and won't let you use another 'day' off your pass at a different park. You'll get a denied entrance at the second park.

1) People were confused by your post because you were referring to buying one day tickets when you are really talking about adding days onto the ticket you intend to buy. Big difference.

2) What you would like to do does not work on a non-park hopping ticket. The ticketing system does not allow you to use 2 days off a ticket in one day in order to park hop.

Adding the park hopper option to your 5 day MYW ticket is much cheaper than what you are suggesting.

Park hopper option is $40.00 per ticket for the entire ticket regardless of the number of days.

A one day, one park ticket is 67.00 - so you are spending over twice as much money with your suggestion if I am understanding you correctly.

Here is a great comparision chart:

Ah - after your update I see you are referring to adding days to your 5 day hopper rather than purchasing single day tickets.

No you won't be able to do this, here is a good explanation from allears:

Am I allowed to use two days off of my MYW Base ticket (non-hopping) if I decide I want to go to a second park on the same day as the first?

No you are not. The tickets are sold and the computer system is based on the number of days you have, not the number of park visits. Once you have used a non-park hopping ticket at any park, the computer system will not let you use it at another park on the same day.

And the link if you want to read more:

Go 3/4 the way down the page for the quote.

Basicly if you want to park hop you need to purchase the park hopping option.

I think I see where you may be getting confused, you are not getting separate tickets for each day but one ticket with X number of days on it not X number of visits.

The computer knows when you use a day on the ticket and where you used it, you will be denied admission at a second park if you don't have the hopper. It isn't a number of tickets or visits it is a number of days to be used at one park per day if you don't add the hopper.

So again, if you want to hop you need the hopper!!

Buying more base tickets (separate cards) costs more than buying fewer tickets with hopping!

One five day with hopping: about $250.

One 5 day base: about $208.
One 3 day base: about $193.
Grand total: $401. to visit two parks on each of three days and one park on each of two days.

KJHawley, TJMW, and Schmeck,
Thank you for your help. I am glad you guys understood what I was asking. I appreciate the feedback. My question was answered. I knew there had to be rules for that since it would come out to be cheaper, I just wasn't sure how it exactly worked.

I have to say I miss the length of stay passes, it just seemed easier.

Thank you again, I hate asking a question that I know is not going to go over well. I have been on other boards where people can get really mean if you say or ask the wrong thing, so I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Looking forward to vacation,
Solstice
