Hi there!

Apologies if this has already been asked a million times (I did try and search for the answer), but I have a question about Ohana. I'm thinking about going to disney before my cruise in September and so I started to play around with possible dining reservations but I can't seem to get a time for Ohana. The only time I can get is like 9:30pm or so. The time doesn't bother me since it is just me and my DH, but if the restaurant closes at 10, will we really have enough time for everything if we get seated at 9:30? My husband loves the endless supply of meat, so I don't want him to be disappointed if we only get one round or something.

Thoughts?
Meredith

Restaurants don't close at the times that they post. That is really the last ADR time of the night (with a 9:30 ADR you may not get seated until after 10).

As a side note, I would take not being able to get an ADR as a blessing. We have had nothing but awful experiences there (awful service, pretty lousy food).

I agree with the PP I was not happy at all with Ohana. The best thing about it was the beer i had and the dumplings. Would not go back. Try Cali Grill if you dont care about time at least you will be able to see the fireworks,

On the other hand, I have had nothing but great experiences there. I have eaten there three times and plan on returning in late September. I'd say try it and decide for yourself. Some will say it's good, some will say it's bad. That goes for any restaraunt at WDW.

Same here, I've been there twice and never had a bad experience. The worst we had was turkey on the dry side from one spit, the rest were fine.

As far as being served later, you should not have any problem. As one of the PP's said, the restaurant does not close right on time.

I have never eaten at 'Ohana this October will be the first time. My DH sounds like yours he loves his meat and requested 'Ohana after I showed him some pics of the skewers of chicken, shrimp etc.

Not sure about your DH but I know mine would never be satisfied with what he would call the "skimpy" entrees at Cali Grille.

I would keep trying to find an ADR and something for 'Ohana will most likely open up

We were at 'Ohana last week and it was the best meal of our seven day trip.
The service was prompt and the food was cooked perfect.

The only problem I had with the place is that the peel and eat shrimp were a pain in the butt to eat.

I will second your comment about the shrimp. Delicious, but a real chore to eat.

If your at Ohana while MK has it's fireworks, try to get a window seat, you can watch the show while at dinner they play the sound track from the show in the restaurant. They might not have a good viewing table available it but ask for one you might get lucky! We did that last year and had a great meal with a show

Hi Meredith,

You should be AOK with your 9:30 reservation time. 10:00 pm is just the time they stop seating people - they stay open much later than that. My wife and I splurged and ate at Ohana last month. I believe our reservation was for 9:00 or 9:15 pm. When 10:00 rolled around the restaurant was pretty chock full and many rounds of food were still being served. Our Hawaiian entertainer guy was strolling around the place singing and playing his beautiful music. I remember the exact time because Magic Kingdom's firework show "Wishes" started at 10:00 pm and we were lucky enough to view it pretty good while dining at Ohana (they have nice big windows). I think we left the restaurant at 10:30ish and there was still no sign of it closing! Bottom line is - they'll get you fed and won't rush you out the door. Don't forget your appetite because the amounts of food are massive. Carnivores only!!

My wife and I have eaten at 'Ohana multiple times and they were some of the best meals we had at WDW.

Even with the 9:30 reservation I believe there should still be plenty of food available.

We ate at Ohana last August (just DH and I, to celebrate our anniversary) and we loved it. Our waitress left a little to be desired, but the food was outstanding. Just one word of warning, as good as the appetizer foods are, try not to fill up on them, LOL. By the time we got around to the meat, I was already pretty full.

I can't believe there are so many people who have had 'never go back' experiences at Ohana!

We have eaten their twice, and both times were simply spectacular.

I had a HORRIBLE migraine headache the first time we ate there, so I didn't enjoy 'dinner' but the food was absolutely fantastic.

The second time we ate there we had a window right be the water, and REALLY enjoyed watching the sunset!

The bread pudding is AMAZING!

The dumplings are fantastic, the entree meats are delicious!

The 2nd time we ate there our server was one of the best we have had at WDW! He normally does not serve dinner there, only breakfast - but we got lucky that he was working dinner that night to cover for a friend!

Not only did he keep our drinks full, he brought one before we 'needed' it!
After a long day in the parks, it is very easy to go through several glasses of water to rehydrate!

We didn't get to see the coconut races on our first trip, but did on out second trip and it was SO cute!!!!

I wish Disney had more restaurants with live entertainment. That concept may not have been the 'thing' a few years ago, but live performers are really making a comeback!

I wish I had been able to go to the restaurant that used to be where the California Grill is now - it was a Broadway revue of sorts - it would be a lit of fun!

Whispering Canyon also has an all you can eat option. That could be another choice.

I never thought I would have a bad experience at 'Ohana either but the food and experience has been increasingly getting worse since we first dined there about 8 or 9 years ago. Since then we have eaten at 'Ohana about 30 times. With their last change of menu - including noodles, dumplings, shimp, and chicken wings, we became more excited about dining there. The food was great when they changed the menu over. We absolutely loved it. But our last 4 times we visited, the food was not great - the meats were so dried out and over done, I couldn't eat any of it. I used to get as much shrimp as possible :lovestruc, but on the last couple of times, the shrimp was also overdone and even more difficult to eat when the shell was stuck to the shrimp.

However, we have had great service and even our last dinner there, our waitress was excellent. But the food is no longer at par. We left a little hungry since most of the food was burnt or clearly overdone and any replacement came the same way. :sad2:

I have to say that we were so disappointed in the food quality that we are no longer dining there. :guilty: In a 2 week vacation, we would have dinner there 2-3 times. Our last dinner there was this past February. We have an upcoming vacation in August and I didn't book a single ADR for 'Ohana. To say the least, it was strange not having to rush to book it.

I can believe it...when you are dealing with a very popular restaurant there are going to be a bunch of folks who love it and a number of folks who feel it's "overhyped" or "the food is not as good as it use to be" or simply hate it. If you spend enough time on Disboards at some point and time there will be various threads or posts which criticize your favorite place WDW restaurant. I always tell folks if there is somewhere you are really curious about dining....go and experience it for yourself....regardless of what all the experts on Disborads feel about your choice.

If you really want to appreciate Ohana again, just book at Chef Mickeys. To me CM's food was possibly the worst! It will definately make all others seems better.

don't worry, they won't rush you! feel free to enjoy your meal at a normal pace.
