HI DIs Friends,

I just watched the movie National Lampoon's Vacation which I haven't seen in many years.

Tell me, is Wally World supposed to be Disney World. Was it filmed at Disney World in California?

Just curious.

The park was Six Flags Magic Mountain. They wanted to use Disneyland as the destination, but Disney objected, saying they would never close down like that.

The premisis for Wally World is based around the Disney empire though.

Thanks, PryncessChrysty. What I mean is, the park used for filming was Six Flags, but was supposed to be a "Disney"-like park. The powers that be at Disney wouldn't let them use the Disney name though.

Actually, I read somewhere recently that the reason everything is such a reminder of WDW, is that the movie was based on a true story involving a trip to Disneyland. My guess is that copyright laws, about which Disney has a reputation of being very strict-and they want their piece of the profits on everything-made the change necessary, so that now it's a "fictional" park trip.
It made so much sense to me when I learned that the story was (sort of) based on a true family trip to Disneyland.

I love the National Lampoon's Vacation series! We just got back from the mall and I bought some DVDs including "Christmas Vacation" (you don't have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy this movie!), and "Vegas Vacation" (again, you don't have to be a gambler to enjoy it!).... I still want to get the original Vacation movie. The only one that I really didn't like was "European Vacation".

I want to write to whoever and tell them that the next in the series should be "National Lampoon's Cruise Vacation". :boat: Cruising as a family vacation is really on the rise in recent years and I think the setting could make for a very funny movie. :)

We just watched that too! When they said Wally World and showed the park, Remy said, "That is the biggest coolest Wal-mart ever!" LOL, see what happens when you refer to Walmart as Wally World.

Lol -- that movie is just starting here in LA - it's almost 2pm.

It was fun for us watching that movie since we've been to Magic Mountain (before its 6 Flags days) a few times, and rode the Colossus - that white rollercoaster, and American Revolution (first loop coaster in the world... or so we were told. :) )

Oh right, I'm sorry. I totally knew what you were saying. I didn't mean to come across as if I were correcting you at all, I was just trying to add to your statement. Since you had already let the OP know that it was filmed at MM, I was just adding that it was supposed to be about Disney. I'm sorry for the confusion! :earboy2:

LOL!! No problem at all... I knew what you were doing. You just inspired me to clarify.

:flower:

Not to mention Roy Walley, the owner of Walley World had an pretty close likeness to Roy Disney. But IMHO of all the cameos...John Candy's was the best.

That's not a real gun, is it Clark?
Are you kidding this is a Magnum P.I.
Its a BB gun. You couldn't even break the skin with that thing.

here's the original story by John Hughes from National Lampoon
