Question about MYW tickets

Hi, I am very new to this, have only been to the MK and we have never stayed on property. We have decided to stay at Pop with the dining plan but I was wondering; do you experienced disney goers feel that the park hopper tickets are enough or would it be better to purchase the tickets that include water parks? We are going in June but I am only planning a water park for 1 day. My kids are 9 and 6 if that helps. Thanks.

One water park visit and separate admission tickets are better. Two or more visits, including visits to Disney Quest and (multiple or non-music) Pleasure Island clubs, and the water park fun option on your park pass is better.

In the latter case, going to the water park does not consume a park day off of the pass if you do not also go into a theme park that day.

Does not matter if you are staying on site or how old the kids are.
