My sil is going to Orlando in Feb. They stay in a time share so will be driving to the parks. The question is regarding her mother who is in her 80s. Her mother loves Magic Kingdom. She can walk though not long distance and has difficulty with stairs/ramps. She will rent a wheelchair inside the park. The problem is once they get to Magic Kingdom ttc they have to take the monorail to get to the park. The walk up the ramp to the monorail is extremely difficult for her now but she really loves going to the Magic Kingdom. Any suggestions. I took the ferry but don't really remember it. How is the walk to the ferry and are there seats on the ferry. Thanks.

I really can't help you out too much with your specific question. I can tell you that the ferry would be much easier for your mom, and yes, there are seats.

I think your question qould get so much more response if you posted it on the disABILITIES board here at the DIS.

If you call this number: 407-824-4321 and explain your situation, they might be able to help you too.

Good luck! One or another, your mom will get to the Magic Kingdom. Don't worry!!! :)

Out of the two, the ferry would be the best alternative. You're still going to have a walk, but it is not as far uphill for the ferry.

Do you have a wheelchair for her at home? This might be the best way to go. Bring that chair, if you have it, so that you have it all the time. It beats having to rent constantly at the parks, plus, you could then wheel her up the ramps to the monorail if need be.

I saw several people in chairs riding the monorail. If you don't have your own, you might be able to rent one that you can keep for the entire duration of your stay, and then return it to a cental locale.

Just some thoughts.

Of the two, the Ferryboat is the lesser of the two ramps.

At the TTC side, there is a ramp down from the TTC to the boat docks. It's about half the size of the Monorail ramp. There is also a small ramp for the dock. There is no ramp on the MK side, aside from the small one on the dock. There are seats on the lower deck of each ferry, as well as in the waiting areas.

I'd suggest renting a wheelchair for her from one of the offsite medical equipment companies instead of renting in the parks. It would be less expensive, you would have it available for other trips (like going to DD or in the area around the time share).
