Question about medical device and air travel??

I am hoping someone can help answer this question for me... If you have some type of medical device implanted in your body that will most likely set off an alarm at the airport secuirty, would it be best to get a letter from your doctor. and if so, is this all the airport would require or is there something else you have to do? I have checked several airlines websites and have found nothing on this subject. Any information would be very much appreciated!

Yes, definetely get a letter from your doctor explaining what kind of implants those may be but you may want to ask on the DISabilities board, maybe someone else can give you more information there.

I have an implanted device and carry a card on me issued by the company that manufactured it. Sometimes I set off the metal detectors, sometimes I don't. Other times I have been pulled aside for a random check. I have never had to show the card I carry. I tell them I have an implanted device, and when I am wanded up and down, it does set off the wand. After a quick pat down, they send me on my way. I don't know what the policy is, but I would say if you would feel more comfortable carrying a letter, get one, and carry it with you. There are a lot of people walking around with devices, and the security deal with many each day. So be prepared with a letter perhaps, then go, don't worry or give it another thought.
