Question about Keurig

For those that have a Keurig, I have a question about brewing a cup of coffee and then a cup of tea. Is there any type of residual taste from one to the other?

I am looking at getting one of these for my DH for Christmas.

Also we are kind of confused on the brewing. If you want a 12oz cup of coffee how many K-cups do you use & how? Is there any coffee waste? Also which size maker? I am looking at either the Special Edition or the Platnium.

DH is a coffee drinker and I am a tea drinker.

Thanks in advance for your help on this.

The Platinum and Special Edition are similar, I have the Platinum and love it- use it every day. The SE brews a 6, 8 or 10 oz cup, the Platinum brews 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 oz.

One "bold" K cup brews a nice 12 oz. cup. For a weaker cup, use the "mild" or "light" roasts.

I've never noticed any residual taste when switching between coffee, hot chocolate or tea.

Costco has the Platinum for $139 now, and it comes with some Kcups (60???)- great price!

I have the Platinum Keurig. I Use my Disney refillable mug for coffee everyday and i only use one k-cup. I brew it once and hit the middle button (I guess that is the medium) and then I rebrew with the smallest button. It tastes great. You learn these little tricks when you get one.

As for brewing coffee and tea, I always just run the brewer with plain water no k-cup.

We switch off all the time, with tea and flavored coffee. I guess because they are individual K-cups there is no residual taste. I love my Keurig for this reason.

I have been very disappointed with Keurig. I love the concept and I love the brewer, when it works. Which is only occasionally. Ours was replaced by Keurig twice and the 3rd is the same bad experience as the first 2. Only after we bought it, and started having problems, did I go online for reviews. Even on Keurig's own site there are tons of reports of them breaking within the first few months. They didn't even bother to have me send the first 2 back, or the part that many were saying they had to send. There were so many of these being returned/replaced it was cheaper for them to just have me keep it. So I have a Keurig graveyard in my junk room!

I was going to upgrade to the Platinum and see if it was any better but the reviews are the same as for the SE we already have. I know a lot of people have had really good results but they have some design/manufacturing issues with these machines. I really would like another one but until I stop seeing so many bad reviews I will have to wait and just keep taking my chances that the one I have will be in a good mood and give me coffee each morning.

But to answer your questions, as Kathy said, use the stronger brew for a larger cup size. I also use the Bold for iced coffee.

DH notices a difference if use tea but he is really picky. In our case I just have one of the cup inserts from our graveyard that use for tea and one for coffee. If you just rinse it out, or run a cycle with no cup that should solve it. Going from coffee to tea would be more noticeable than the other way around.

I don't know anyone that has had a single problem with theirs and most of our friends have them. Maybe they corrected the problem.

I am surprised to hear this too! Everyone in my extended family has had them for over a year and we haven't had any problems at all. :confused3

There were a bunch of Special Editions that were sold through Sam's and Costco a year ago that had water pumps that tended to fail after a while. I had this happen to mine.

Keurig replaced them by sending new Platinum machines to registered owners that had the problem, along with a few boxes of coffee, all at no charge. The water pump was redesigned and I don't expect to have that problem again.

I felt this was outstanding customer service, and have been very happy with the Platinum (as I was with my old Special Edition right up until the day it croaked.)

I always run water through the k-cup holder before I brew a cup of tea. I just run it through, toss it, and it's usually good to go!

We've had our Keurig for going on three years, and have not had any problems with it. It's not the most expensive one...I think it was about $100 or so....it's not the one with the digital screen.

I love it!

My mom had a problem with hers. She tried de-scaling it and the element or whatever burnt out on it. Keurig replaced it at no charge....shipped a new one right to her door!

I'm on my second. First one died. My friend's just broke as well.

Like lovetoscrap, other than that I really like it. :rotfl2:

I found some of the KCup brews too weak, so I buy the Newman's Own Special Blend Extra Bold and that makes a good, strong cup.

Yep, ours was from Costco. But they never sent a Platinum, I was sort of hoping they would.

First machine was bought in Feb this year and out of the box it wouldn't turn on. After some coaxing it finally did, but would shut off after each cup, and most cups were only a few ounces. Called Keurig and they were very nice and immediately sent a new one. They did have excellent Customer Service. They sent extra boxes of coffee and were very prompt to ship out a new one.

Second one came and was good for only a few days and then it started shutting off, and the same "short cup" of output. This was when I went online and found out about the problems. I called again and said I didn't want another one that would do the same thing. He promised me that they had redesigned it and were only shipping newly manufactured ones. In the meantime that model was pulled from their website.

The third one came (with more coffee) and while it has been more successful than the first two it still shuts off at least a few times a week, and we often have to brew 2 or 3 times to get the full ounces we are supposed to. After getting a 3rd one I just gave up on calling them back.

I know that a lot of people haven't had any problems, so I really don't understand how some machines work fine and others just don't. On Keurig's website if you read through the customer reviews you see the same comments, and people on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th replacement, and the same inconsistency of some of them working wonderfully. http://www.keurig.com/brewers/speci...m#pr-header-special__edition__brewing__system

The Platinum has worse current reviews than the SE http://www.keurig.com/brewers/platinum-brewing-system

I love the machine and the cups and how I can make fresh iced tea so quick and easy. DH and I like totally different coffee-- he wants his spoon to stand up in his, and I like mine a little darker than my tea so this really is a great option for us. I really want to get the Platinum but just don't feel comfortable spending the money again. They have been excellent in Customer Service, but I still don't have a machine that works worth the $140 I paid for it.

It's funny how different people have different experiences with well loved products. I love my Kuerig. but lets talk about those Dyson vacuumes that everyone loves, HATED IT. I cursed that thing everyday, it never worked for me. Ok, back to coffee.

I thought ours said to run water between the hot chocolate and the coffee, but not the tea.

We have never had a problem with ours, but my daughter did, way out of warrenty (and it was very well used). We buy our coffee through Green Mtn, and they have a deal, that if you do have a problem they will try to fix it (over the phone) and if they can't, they send a new one (which they did, to her).

I hate coffee, but hubby loves his and since the price is going up Jan 1st, he just put a big order in..it came today and he is one happy person..especially since the seasonal coffees were in that pack!!

About the Dyson..someone once told me they hated theirs, but they paid so much they didn't want anyone to know they made a poor choice LOL.

I picked up an order at filter fresh the other day and they had Iced Sweet Tea out to sample- I LOVED it!! I bought a box from there and have been making that every day!! They also had spiced cider out to try and I picked that up for grandma!
