Question about housekeeping...

I am renting points from a friend at work for a one bedroom and this just popped into my head...we won't be getting daily housekeeping during our stay. I think they come every four days to give you fresh towels and take out trash, correct? How do we leave the room? I know the maid will make the bed and clean up, but what about the kitchen? Do we wash all the dirty dishes and put them away or do they do that? Do we leave the dirty towels in the bathroom or do we launder them? Is there anything we should do different when we check out that we don't do when we check out of a regular room? Thanks!

Trash and Towel service is provided, I think on your 3rd or 4th day. They will come in and remove all the towels and leave you with a fresh set and also empty garbage cans. I don't remember if they leave you with a new set of soaps and coffee stuff or not..

When you are checking out, you can leave everything as you would leave it in a regular hotel room. Housekeeping will need to strip the beds and put fresh linens in and also wash the dishes and clean the place in general. We tend to kind of tidy the place up a bit and I load the dishwasher and start it when I leave but I leave the towels in the shower/bathtub and the beds I leave unmade. Don't waste your time washing everything the day you leave because it will all be replaced with freshly laundered items anyway.

It's the 4th day, including the day you check-in. The date will be on the reservation confirmation, too.

As Sgt already said, Trash & Towel will empty the trash and put in new liners (there are always more at the bottom of the can if you want to empty something sooner.) Provide fresh bathroom linens (towels). Replace facial tissue, paper towels and toilet paper. Replenish coffee, sugar, cream & sweeteners. Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed (applies to 1 bedrooms and larger).

When you check-out, you can just close the door. It is helpful if you can pick up a bit as Sgt. mentions but it is not required. Housekeeping rules require them to throw out any food you leave behind, even if it is unopened so take or eat what you can. ;)

If during your stay you need toilet paper, dishwasher liquid, trash bags, etc. you can always call housekeeping for more. You don't need to wait for T&T.

Can someone please answer my questions?

How do you tip them? Or do you? Since it's not everyday.

If you request more of something like trash bags, toilet paper etc.. do you pay a fee? Or do you pay a fee for only certain things like towels?

Thanks!

That is really a personal decision. Disney does not consider Housekeeping a tipped position, but some DVC members do tip while others do not.

If you request more 'essentials' like Toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap they do not charge you. Also if you need an extra pillow or blanket you can request that and not be charged. They do charge you for an additional set of towels if you need it and also if you request more coffee. I also believe that if you request more shampoo or soap you will get charged for that as well. On trash and towel day, as mentioned above you should get fresh towels, coffee supplies and soap/shampoo for free.

Yes, I know the Disney policy. I am one of those who tips mousekeeping.

I, however, have not yet stayed at my 'home' resort and was wondering how those who DO tip mousekeeing handle it at DVC resorts since you only get mousekeeping every 4 days.

Can anyone who DOES tip tell me how you handle it? Do you calculate it as if they cleaned your room daily? If your last day is NOT a cleaning day, do you still leave a tip before you check out?

Thanks!

I usually leave $2 on T & T Day (for 2 people, 1 bedroom) and $5 on check-out. We always help out by taking out the trash, loading the dishwasher, piling all the towels in the tub and cleaning up any mess.

I know the maid will make the bed and clean up,
Not on Trash and Towel Day.

Trash and Towel includes only the following:
Empty trash and put in new liners
Provide fresh bathroom linens
Replace facial tissue, paper towels, toilet paper as required
Replenish coffee, sugar, cream, sweeteners
Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwater detergent, sponges, laundry detergent as needed

For full cleaning days you get:

All the Trash and Towel items
Change Bed linens
Vacuum and dust
Clean bathroom(s)
Clean kitchen/ wash dishes.

If your vacation stay is 7-nights or less, you get trash and towel on day 4, and that's it.

As mentioned, days include check-in day. If you checked in on a Sunday, day 4 would be the following Wednesday.

If your vacation stay is 8-nights or longer, you get Full Cleaning services on day 4, then Trash and Towel on day eight, Full Cleaning again on day 12, and so on.

For Trash and Towel days we put dirty towels in a pile by the tub. We leave clean towels hanging on the racks.

We set the garbage can out next to the kitchen 'entryway' and also any other garbage bags we've filled.

When we check-out, we do the same as above, pick-up around the unit (TV remotes back in their sleeves, furniture straightened, blinds set, etc, put dishes in the wash, wipe down kitchen and bath areas, semi-strip the bed.

Per policy we do not leave a tip. But we do try to leave the room so the maid will have minimum work.

Will we get enough coffee & sugar, initially, if there is only one person drinking coffee (probably one or two cups a day)? Or should I bring my own?

Thanks!:D

Unless you want to make a big pot and save it for the next few days, I would bring your own. Disney supplies those filter packs, one regular and one decaf and it is one of those things where you have to make a regular 8 or 10 cup sized pot from the amount that is in the filter pack. I suppose if you cut the pack open and brought your own filters you could make it stretch, but that is too much work for me.. ;) In regard to the sugar, they is usually enough, for me anyway, to last a couple of days. We always just grab a few extra packs when we are out eating somewhere and bring them back to the room.
