Question about holding points/last minute change

If I change my reservation to a different resort within 30 days, and the new reservation is lower points -- does only the difference in points go into holding, or do all of the points of the original reservation go into holding? Sorry, just a little confused on this.

Just the difference should go into holding.

When you cancel the original reservation within 30 days, all of the points used for that reservation go into holding. If the new reservation is made for a stay no more than 60 days away, MS can use holding points for the new reservation. If that new reservation requires fewer points, you will be left with some holding points in your account.

If you cancel a reservation at 30 days to 1 day from check in, all points used for that reservation go into the holding account. Points in holding can only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of your check in date. Holding points cannot be banked and will expire at the end of your UY if not used.

ETA: If you cancel on your check-in day all points are forfeited.
