Question about Harnesses

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good harness for a very active 2 year old. I don't want to get into a debate about if it is "humane" or not to use one. We are using one, end of story.

I would however like to get the opinions of people that have them and love them. The only two things I worry about are it being to hot on him or irritating his skin (like rubbing and such). Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the link! I think that i have looked at those but they seem like they would be really hot to wear. Maybe I am just over thinking it but I don't know if I would want a furry thing on my back when it was already hot out.

Don't have much to add. I bought a similar one at Target for my son. His is a dog. My son is 2 and a half, I was hoping since it was a cute little animal he would want to put it on, but he doesn't. If you are worried about it being to hot, just buy a regular old harness. I think I have seen one at Walmart.

I like your attitude also. I would much rather know my child is safe! We have one similar to this one. http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.js...itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=424756&change=117

My dd is 4 now and doesn't use it anymore, we used up until age 3 1/2 I think. We used at Disney, aquariums, and airports etc....I also used it when DS was a little guy since he hated the stroller.

This style isn't hot and itsn't tight around the chest. It is all velcro so you can make it loose, and they can't get out of it. It velcros in the back too.

Good luck! :goodvibes

EDITED to add, this is the exact one we have: http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.js...33&itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=333&change=117

We have a dog one very similar to the link for the monkey one and we LOVE it (as does our very active 16 month old). I will agree there are lots of opinions on why and if, but for us it works and it sure is better than a screaming kid in a stroller :earsboy:

What I did in picking it out was simply go to WalMart - and have him try it on.

We got the dog one, too, and at first, our two year old hated it. But I just left it out, and my older child wore it around a bunch, and eventually he wanted to try it. Now he's willing to wear it sometimes, so we'll actually be able to use it next month when we go to Disney!

Nothing to debate...glad only SUPPORTIVE mamas are commenting! The one at walmart is soo cute (but "boyish") I wish they had a girlie-girl one! I bought a plain mint-green one at Babies R Us and plan on using it in Sept. It has tons of adjustability and is zip-on. Also...OT a smidge...but a good tip on another post was to write your cell phone # on your toddlers arm in permantent ink like a Sharpee in case despite all efforts she or he wanders away from you!

If you are concerned that the "animal backpack" style might be hot, the One Step Ahead" one isn't as bulky. Also, Wal-Mart has an elmo one that is similiar to One Step Ahead's.

i have a basic one from BRU, i make sure to put it over his clothing, it seems ok. get one soon so your little one can used to it. my son is mr independent, you better believe i'm going to use whatever is needed to keep him safe!!!

Thank you all for all the great ideas! I will have to start looking through all the ones listed and see which one will work best for us.

Thanks also for your support on this issue. I am a mom who thinks that being a mom is hard enough......why do people have to make other moms feel bad just because they don't agree with them? My motto is...it is not my family, it is not my business.

My little guy is a RUNNER and there is no way that he is going to hold my hand at WDW. He does not even like holding it walk from the car into daycare! :rotfl:

I work at a zoo and it seems like EVERYONE has a toddler harness this year! I have never seen so many leashed kids and such a variety of harnesses. I talked to a family today who had their 2-yr-old on a really cute monkey harness. Just 2 years ago when I was looking for a harness for my wild child they were really hard to find. I'm sure you will be in good company!

We've got a Clippasafe harness. I haven't found anywhere in US to get it. We ordered off of ebay. It is well made and the handle part isn't so long that it gets in anyone's way. My DS calls it his 'backpack' and gets it himself when we go to WDW or Six Flags.

Another vote for the monkey harness. DFD (3) is about as wild a child as DH and I have ever known. This has been a lifesaver. DMIL originally bought one of the wrist "leashes" and even though I didn't like it, we tried it. DD got that little number off quite easily after about the first week or so. So we got the monkey and she LOVES it, she even reminds us to bring it with us. So far, she has not complained about it making her hot or uncomfortable and it really does seem to be lightweight material, so I'm hoping that it will work well for her in WDW.

We have the Elmo one. We got it when dd would not stay in her stroller. I believe you can wear it two ways - clipped on the back or worn on the wrist. The wrist one isn't as secure for small arms. It would only work on an older child, who would leave it on. The clip would be best for the younger child. Nice to have 2 options. Also you can leave the harness on and unclip the "leash" anytime you want.

Funny... before I had kids I said I would never use one of those... then you have kids... everything changes... doesn't matter what anyone thinks. You just want to keep your kids safe. :)

I always used the wrist ones..with velcor. my youngest is now 12 so I'm outta touch with products.

I used to tell me kids it was so they wouldn't lose me. You know sometimes parents have a tendency to wander off :)

Please don't ever use the ones that come with the long, stretchy telephone cord leash! At WDW, I saw two nasty accidents involving the longer cords.
