Ok, ......is there a monthly rent to have the service of GPS?

Not in general. Once you buy a GPS it'll get you where you want to go. Some of them, though, have additional things you can subscribe to like it knowing when to take you around a traffic jam and things like that. I don't subscribe to anything and find my GPS very useful.

TomTom offer the options of adding different voices. Some are free, others are not. I paid 12 dollars once, and John Cleese has been guiding my drives ever since!

And no, no monthly fee, unless you add on stuff like the Traffic alert (which is a yearly fee).
