Question about Gold Pass and Photopass

I understand that Photopass downloads are included with the purchase of an annual pass - and that the downloads would be valid for any people/magic bands associated with the MDE account. I was planning to upgrade my husband's MYW park hopper (which I already purchased through Undercover Tourist) to a Gold Pass during our June 2016 visit. However, since then I've decided to purchase a Gold Pass for my teenage son (a college student who attends University of Florida) so he can make a few day trips prior to our family vacation. Here's the question.... If I do so, would we be able to download all of the pics taken during our family vacation with his pass, since we are all linked on DME... even if he is not with us for the entire June stay? He may have to miss a few days due to an internship. Complicated, right??? With this new twist, I'm wondering if there is any value in upgrading my husband's MYW, too. Advice appreciated!

In order to download the PhotoPass pictures for free with one of the new annual passes, the passholder needs to have their own MDE account. The passholder would then be able to log on to their MyDisneyPhotoPass.com account and download any eligible photos.

If you manage a profile for your son, he will need to create his own MDE account. Once he does that, you need to invite him to plan & share by entering the email he used to create his account. If you have any other managed profiles on your account (spouse, other children, etc.), once he is friends with you, he can select 'Add a Guest' from his account to add any of your other managed profiles to his family & friends list.

Thank you, Michael. That is a more complicated response than I was expecting! If we link our accounts as you suggested, will I still be able to make FP and other plans for all of us through my account, while my son can download photos from his account? Will he also need to enter my e-mail address in his account, or will my invitation essentially link our accounts so we can both make plans?

Yes

The one friend request will add you both to each others Family & Friends list.

Is this information listed somewhere on Disney.com? This is different than what was stated in the last few weeks. I know this is still a moving process since this all just happened last month. We are going in January I was under the impression that as long as you were all on one reservation and the ticket was linked to the account it would link all the pictures

I found this online when I just purchased my Gold annual pass. I am reading this to say whichever MDE account the ticket is linked to will capture the pictures. I do not believe they need to have their own

Disney PhotoPass Downloads

The Disney Platinum Plus Pass, Disney Platinum Pass and Disney Gold Pass include a benefit that lets you access and download Disney PhotoPass photos captured in your account from the first valid date of your pass until your pass expires. Plus, access and downloading is available after pass expiration for as long as the photo is stored in the system (365 days from date of capture). To start using this benefit, simply link your pass to the Disney account you will use to retrieve photos. Entitlement includes discounted prices on prints and physical product purchases, is non-transferable and benefits do not extend to photos of Family & Friends. Access and downloading is not available for photos captured after pass expiration or after a pass is removed from a Disney account.

The PhotoPass downloads are controlled by the primary person on the Disney Account, not a Family & Friend member. The person with the entitlement has to have their own MDE account with their pass linked to it.

There have been a couple of posts where the Disney Account holder did not have a pass with the entitlement but a family member did. The Disney Account holder was unable to download the pictures (it said they had to pay to download).

Michael - I hope you can answer one more question. If I have my son create his own MDE account, do I need to delete him from mine? I'm envisioning two icons for him if I don't, which could be confusing when making FP reservations - or maybe it's not even allowed. I'd like to be able to manage his reservations for our family vacation.

You need to invite him to share plans. That will link you two together, and his profile under your account will be merged with his new account.

If you have any problems, and you end up with two of him, call their IT help -- they solved this problem for me very quickly.
