Question about FPs for someone who hasn't been in a long time . . .

Last time I was at DW we still used our cards to run through the FP machines at each ride location.

I'm pretty sure I have a good idea of how to do them now - meaning I booked 60 days out etc. However I am wondering if I have to wait until all three are used in order to be able to book others. I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly.
