Is first class really worth it? We are going to go to Las Vegas through ATL. It is a 4 and 1/2 hour flight. Is first class worth it? Is the seats more comfy? Meal good? Does first have its own restroom? Is it larger?

We have a chance to do it,,,,, Should we. Never flown first class and just curious :goodvibes

Well that depends.... How much is it over coach?

For a deal maybe... For a lot probably not.

The seats are bigger and you are close to the restroom in the front of the plane. The FAs try to discourage the coach passengers from coming up, but it's not a private restroom by any means.

You may have an individual video screen, not on demand but a few more choices.

Meals.... ehh it's airline food. Edible would be a good term for it. Drinks are free however and in 4 and half hours I can put down some wine (especially headed to Vegas)

I am spoiled, since until this year I flew DL a LOT I got First Class upgrades for free.... paying for it.. just depends. I like it better on the wide body planes...

I flew home on Delta in First yesterday. The seats are a bit wider and so is the middle armrest. Like CarolA said - the alcohol is free and there will be a meal but honestly it isn't anything to write home about - I bring my own food onboard anyway (usually salad and fresh fruit from an airport restaurant).

I wouldn't pay much for the upgrade or even waste my frequent flyer miles to upgrade. It just isn't worth it for a domestic flight in my opinion.

Also, how many of you are flying? If there are 3 of you then you may be better off in coach because of the seat configuration. All First Class seats are 2 to a row.

Good luck with your decision. I just got home from Vegas yesterday afternoon. I'll never see the appeal of smoky casinos but that's just me.

I completely agree. I would never fly first class domestically on my own dime (or using airline miles). It is simply not worth the extra cost. International flights - go for it.

I hate flying coach so I would say do it. Like CarolA stated the alcohol is free plus you recieve a meal. The personal attention is a lot better than flying coach. The extra room plus the benefits are what makes first class that much better plus the hot towel versus the moist towelette is worth it. :thumbsup2 Also Delta's 767 series have the 2-2-2 configuration in first so hopefully that's what your on. They all don't have the 2-2 config.

Most of the Atlanta-Las Vegas routes are actually the 2-2 config. Only a few flights that you would connect on from Knoxville (assuming OP is flying from Knoxville based on the East TN location) would be 2-2-2

Three of us flew in FC for Spring Break this year. We went from Portland, OR to ATL and then on the Savannah, GA. Long flight!!!

The seats and middle console made it more confortable. The beverage service was non-stop (DH drank a bottle of wine on the way home) and there was food! Food was good (not spectacular). Would I pay ($$) for FC definately NOT, would I use miles again YES! It was fun and DD (age 9) LOVED it! :thumbsup2

You don't always get a hot towel. We didnt get one yesterday or a beverage service before the flight left.

Thanks guys! :thumbsup2

Here is our deal- ( 6 in party )

We are traveling with my husbands parents, and my dd3's great great aunt of the young age of 93. This is her trip. She so wants to see the west before she passes someday. She is is great shape, but is older. We thought that first class may offer her a little more than coach. We always go coach, but 4 1/2 hours of coach may be hard on her. We went ahead and got the FC tickets, and she was thrilled. :cloud9: I personally would not have done it for my family of three, but I want to show her the best time I can. Money well invested. I did notice when we purchased the tickets, the airline was much nicer than usual. They are going to make sure she ( G G Aunt ) is well taken care of. Assistance with distance, and stairs. Her meal, and so on. Also I think FC boards first ( I have always seen them on the plane with drinks when we board ) So, this will help her to get comfy, and for me to get the Car Seat in, and have my dd set without people on top of me.... Never have brought the car seat, but for this long of a flight we thought dd would be more comfy.

*******How does boarding work for FC???? clueless :confused3

The plane from TYS to ATL actually has a first class on board which was shocking to me. Normally we get twin prop's that have only coach. The plane from ATL to LAS is a 2-2-2 , so we all were able to find seats that were close.

This trip is not for casino's, but for nature, and the beauty of the west. The last time this gal flew was during WW2 (1943) Man is she in for a treat!!! :woohoo:

Thanks for all of your help

Jessica

You would be able to pre-board due to your Great Aunt's need for extra time or with your small child, you don't have to have a FC ticket for that.

Enjoy your flight. What a treat for the family. Take some pix inflight for some fun memories later.

Have a great trip!

We have pre-boarded whenever we've had FC tickets on Delta. However, your experience will be greatly impacted by what type of plane you will be on. See http://www.seatguru.com to see the pitch/amenities of FC on your type of plane. Some are better than others (777 - very nice; 757 - just OK).

You are absolutely correct that all flights don't but the flights to LAS do and that's why I told the OP that. I have taken that route several times and always have gotten one. Also I guess I have been lucky because the past 50 flights to the west coast have been given the hot towel service. I also have never gone without a beverage service in F and that's even on the little 30 minute hops and I find it weird that people have.

Yeah I can see that and that's why I said that I was hoping they were on the 767.
