Hello, everyone! My aunt, my mom, and I are all planning a girls' trip for October (Whoo-hoo! :cool1: ), and there's one big question looming over us before we can set anything in stone just yet.

I know that there are extra charges applied to your resort rate when more than two adults stay in a room, but I haven't found anywhere that tells you exactly what the charge is. I've heard figures from $10 extra per person/per night to $25 extra per person/per night. Does it vary depending on whether or not you're staying at a deluxe, moderate, or value? Does it apply to the villas or just the regular resorts? We need to crunch some numbers because there's a possibility of my best friend joining us, and it might be better for us to get two rooms at a value or moderate than just one at a deluxe depending on the extra cash per night.

Any information you could give us would be appreciated! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Value Resort is $10 for each additional adult
Moderate Resort is $15 for each additional adult
Deluxe is $25 for each additional adult

I don't think you have to pay the additional adult in the Wilderness Cabins or Family suites in ASMu. These are for up to 6 people I believe.

Well, I called Disney Reservations two days ago so that I could register the 3rd adult. A CM said the nightly charge was going to be $25/night PLUS Tax, so it's actually $28.12/night. This was for a deluxe (Yacht Club) by the way. I'm guessing it's a bit cheaper for mods & values ($15-$20/night plus tax). I don't know about the Villas perhaps they're the same as the deluxes. It does add up when you think about it, $28.12 x 6 (no. of nights)= $168.72...

And I would still like to see an explanation on why adults are charged but kids aren't. It's not just Disney, it's industry wide. Adults tend to be neater and kids messier. Still need the same amount of sheets and towels and toiletries for four adults or two adults and two kids. Has always left me puzzled.

I have always wondered when kids are considered Adults?
on Disney Dining Plan a kid who is over 10 is considered an adult.
Is that the same for the Resort rooms?

Enchanted; play around a bit on the WDW-site. It'll automatically add the 3rd adult charge. You wont have to chrunch numbers this way, just compair the price for 2 adults versus 3 adults.

I am thinking it is just a tool used to get a family to take a vacation. If the kids aren't paying extra, the family may more likely to the vacation.

I am not sure abou the Villas- for some reason I think there is not the same type of additional adult charge (like the family suites/ cabins)....

I think there is an additional charge for the villas for the extra adults, as well (same as deluxe resorts) if booked as a regular room.

Does not apply when using DVC points, I believe.

Think of it more as a "discounted - kids stay free" thing than an extra charge for adults.

Its really not all that complicated the extra adult charge is:

$10.00 plus tax for a value
$15.00 plus tax for a moderate
$25.00 plus tax for a deluxe

I believe there is an extra adult charge at the DVC resorts - but I'm not sure what it is. If you stay on points you can have as many adults as you want - not extra charge

No charge for extra adults in the villas, suites or cabins. Be lucky that US hotels don't charge based on single, double, triple or quad occupancy like they do in Europe. I don't think it matters at all what the ages are, they simply charge more for every person that's added to the hotel room.

Actually..it's any kid who is over 9yo, not 10. :)

The park tickets are considered "adult" for those over 9, however in the resorts rooms reservations:: child is 3-9, Junior is 10-17 and then 18 and over is an adult. The room allows 2 adults and 2 children..1 child and 1 junior in room except those in the villas and suites or cabins. I believe if you have adults and 2 juniors, i think you still pay extra for the junior.

But if you had a vacation package of children over 9, then you subject to pay the "adult" park tickets but do not pay extra for the rooms. Go figure!!!:sad2:

The Family Suites start at $184 a night duing value season.
Most of the Disney resorts (excluding DVC) charge extra for more than 2 adults in a room.
The Family Suites do not charge extra for extra adults.
1-6 adults can stay in the Family Suites for the same set price.

The Family Suites have discounts available also so if you keep your eyes open you just may snag a great deal.

Family Suite info:

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Info thread--Pullouts in Family Suites at ASMU with photos of how the pullout is supported.

Here is the layout of the Family Suites:

ASMusic_FamSuite_layout.jpg

They:

-Sleep up to 6 (plus one child under age 3 in a Pak-n-Play crib)
-Studio amenities and separate sleeping areas giving more privacy than a standard room.
-Queen bed, full-size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman & chair sleepers
The pullout chair and large ottoman each pull out into standard size twin beds.
(4 separate sleepers)
-Private master bedroom and family room have 27” flat CRT TV and high speed Internet access.
-Kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator (4.3 cu. ft) and coffee pot
-Two-full bathrooms

Exactly.

Ok. I am giving away my age here but in the late 1960's when I as teen Holiday Inn would advertise that "children under 12 could sleep free in their parents room."

Some hotels still charge extra for children .

At The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan children under 11 are complimentary .

From this website:

http://www.grandhotel.com/guestrooms.html

Children's Rates

up to 11 years complimentary
12-17 $55.00 per night
18 years and older $119.00 per night

Children's rates apply after one guest, paying the single rate, occupies a guest room.

OP here! Thank you guys SO much for all the info! You're totally awesome! :thumbsup2

I've been playing around on the Disney website (Great idea, goofieslonglostsis!), and it APPEARS that you indeed do not have to pay extra fees if staying in the villas even if you are not staying on points. So that's looking like a more viable option for us.

Thanks again, everybody!
