Do the CM's in each country speak the native language? My DD is 15 and is taking German this year. She is hoping she will be able to use her German!

Also, do the CM's trade pins in all the parks?:D

There are natives of each Epcot country working in the pavilions/shops in that country, so your DD will be able to practice her German with a native-speaking German.

Today is my DD's birthday (#12) and she is enamored with Japanese. She watches all kinds of anime and downloads Japanese music (and seems to sing-along) all of the time. For her birthday, she received 'how to speak Japanese' CD's and word books. She's been listening to lessons and reading her books. We're going to WDW in late June and I've given her a goal to be able to speak a few words of Japanese in the Japan pavillion. It'll be interesting to see if she will be able to pull off a phrase or two. She picks things up pretty quickly so I'm pretty confident she'll pull it off.

And yes.......each country is staffed with CM's from that country, so native languages are spoken everywhere in World Showcase.

I've found most of the CM in World Showcase to be exceptionally polite and helpful. I can only imagine they would be very receptive to someone speaking thier native language.

I've practiced my german with the CMs in WS, and they have all been very polite and all seemed to enjoy the fact that you are making an honest effort to learn their language.

Go for it!

I read another very nice thread about one family whose kids learned to say "hello" in all of the foreign languages around WS. What a fantastic experience for a kid! That would be Spanish, Norwegian, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Moroccan & French.

We have always found the CMs in the World Showcase are very greatful when a guest attempts to speak their native language. Have fun & enjoy your trip!
