How far in advance can you request a room/points? I was hoping for a Studio at VGF late October 2017. Thank you

I don't know how far in advance you can make a reservation directly with Disney. But if you're talking about signing a contract with a DVC owner to pay them for using their points to make a reservation for you (usually paid for by you in terms of a certain amount of money per point that the DVC owner has to spend, hence you are 'renting' their points from them) there's technically no real limit to your request. You could start trying to find someone for 2030, if you wanted.

In terms of when the owner could actually MAKE the reservation, however, that would be 11 months prior to the actual start date or, in your case, late November of 2016. That would be if you found an owner who owned at VGF; if you were to sign a contract with someone who owned at a different resort it would be only 7 months prior to the reservation date. Since you already have an idea of when you want to go (as well as what type of room and which resort) I'd suggest you try to find a VGF owner probably around the August/September 2016 timeframe. That would give you two or three months to find someone who is willing to 'rent' those points at a price the two of you find acceptable. I really think that you won't have any difficulties if you start at that point; be aware that you have multiple means of finding someone - there's the Rent/Trade board here on DIS, there are at least two brokers that I'm aware of that you can use as a 'middleman' for the contract, and you can probably do an Internet search to find other options. Technically there's no reason you couldn't start looking now, it just seems a bit premature to me.

Thank you so much for your detailed answer. It was everything I was looking for!! I will start my search as you suggested in August of 2016. Again thank you

You're welcome! And, hey, there's nothing that says you can't lurk on these boards to find out information that might be useful. (If it helps to increase the anticipation, that's even better, right? LOL) And if you have questions, don't lurk - ask! Good luck. :-)

Thank you! Yes I will surely be lurking. Planning for Disney is always so exciting!
