ok, so a couple years ago i bought a down-filled reversible vest. it's a brand name that i (used to) associate with good quality. but after i wore it 3 or 4 times, the feathers began coming through one side of it (the fleecy side). so i was left with a vest that was uncomfortable to wear when i wore it with the fleece side in (feathers poking you in the back), or a vest that looks completely stupid with the fleece side out (little feathers sticking out of your back). if i picked all the little feathers out, would more come out? is there a way for me to fix this, or is it a total loss?

(i hope that made sense)

hhmmm....DD got one a couple of years ago as a gift from a relative, not reversible but fleece lined in navy blue, light blue nylon/poly outside. I noticed that as the first winter wore on, the feathers come through the navy fleece lining . I've picked at them, it doesn't seem to eliminate the problem more seem to work through the lining. Hers is not a brand I recognize, but all the same I'm sure it was not cheap.......

and no, I haven't found a way to fix it......maybe someone out there has a magic remedy for us :)

Is this what the folks at the DIS meet should expect? (hope link works!)

Sorry-seriously, even after two years, maybe the company can refund or merchandise credit you?

LOL lilboo :)

The clerk at my dry cleaner just kind of shrugged when I mentioned it while dropping off DD's vest  - -
but that would be a good idea if someone has a "relationship" with a knowledgeable experienced dry cleaner person . Unfortunately the place nearest my house changed management a couple of times in the last couple of years and there seems to be a constant tunover of clerks............

i've never had clothes with that, but with my pillows, i just thought that came with the territory

I don't know that it's fixable - The vest should have been lined with a tighter woven fabric on the fleece side, apparently. The down can work it's way thru a loose weave - You can pluck the strays, but more will come....

It's happened with everything I've owned with feathers. Jackets, pillows, blankets, everything.

Serena, when the feathers start to stick out of your pillows it usually means that the ticking is wearing out and needs to be replaced. Of course, the trouble is finding nice, thick ticking at a fabric store now. I guess not a lot of people sew as much now and there isn't a big demand for it. They sell a lot of the fake thin stuff for crafts though, lol.

I just put two pillow cases on it. :)

I too, thought it just comes with the territory.

I just learned to live with it.
