I have put a deposit down ($200) on a package in early July. I then paid for 1 night of a room only in August. There have also been other purchases since then on the card, but I have paid them all in full with in a few days of the purchase. This month they added interest to my account. I quickly wrote them and they refunded me as a"courtesy, but told me that my "200" was paid in full and now everything else would get interest. They didn't include the $162 for the 1 night as the Disney portion in the reply.
1. Am I wrong? Wouldn't the room only be 0% interest for 6 months as well? and so far I haven't had any interest on it till this month.
2. So even though I have paid all the purchases except the Disney portion, should they still consider that I paid the Disney portion first? Even though they haven't so far in the past.
Should I call to get this straightened out? I thought that all other purchases would have the payments applied to first, for the 1st 6 months.

The room only does not qualify for the 0% interest. It has to be towards a package. So since you paid everything else off except for the Disney $200 and the $162 room only, you were charged interest on the $162.

OK, but I was charge interest on 457, according to the person who wrote me...which I'm not sure why, since everything was paid for except the 362. But she did refund it to me. I have the money to pay it, but just haven't since I thought there was no interests for 6 months and the trip is still undecided for sure. I guess I'll pay it off all off by the next cycle then.

But I shouldn't be charged interest on the 200 yet, right? I booked that on 07/07/2010, so I should still have a 2 more months technically. It just irritates me. This lady keeps saying I have paid off the Disney portion and the rest is now the full interest rate, but my understanding was that the Disny stuff (the package, I now know) shouldn't be charged anything till 6 months is up...am I correct?

Interest is charged on all your outstanding balance from the day that the charge was made if you do not pay your balance in full. So when you did not pay the amount of the room only deposit you were charged interest on it and any other purchases that you had made as well until the balance was paid down. But what happens when you make midcycle payments is that chase doesnt apply those payments to your new charges. The payment gets applied to anything that was outstanding from your previous statement. So in august you paid down that two hundred dollar deposit you made in July before you paid on the gasoline you bought just a couple of days before. Thats why the representative is telling you that your two hundred is paid off but the other charges are acruing interest.

It's weird though because I have been paying it that way since July and this is the first time I had any interest. I'll just pay it all off, but it kind of ticks me off.

Yes but when did the deposit for the disney package first appear on your statement? If your closing date for july was prior to the day that you made the deposit then it would not have appeared on your statement until the august statement. If it wasnt on your statement in july then any midcycle payments made in july would not have been applied to it b/c theoretically you did not owe on it until the next statement (august) was generated. So midcycle payments in july would have been applied to other new charges that were at a higher interest rate. When the next statement was created the deposit and all other new charges were on it. Plus any payments that you made during the middle of the cycle. The payments that you made midcyle were applied to the charges with the higher interest rate first. But you didnt pay the two hundred for the deposit which was at zero percent interest. So you were in effect carrying a balance on your august bill. Any payments made between when the august bill was generated and when the next billing cycle closed would have been applied to the deposit first b/c that was the balance that you were carrying over. Unless there were other charges also carried over which were accumulating interest at a higher rate.
