Question about DIS DVC Renting

I am sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I didn't know where else to put it

I understand that through DIS we can rent DVC points for stays at WDW & DL (and vero and aluani) but what about the other disney properties? Such as Disney Hong Kong, Tokyo and Paris ... or even cruises?

Yes, those options may be reserved by members and rented to others - HOWEVER - you should be well versed in what the same options would cost directly thru Disney before working with a DVC Member.

While DVC Resort reservations are usually available at considerable cost savings, the same is not often true with the non-DVC options. First there is a $95 charge just to make the reservation in addition to the typically high point cost for those same options. Members are likely to ask for significant non-refundable payment before even making the reservation - since the $95 charge would be non-refundable for the member and the points could no longer be used at DVC resorts if they had to cancel.

In addition, not all DVC owners are even able to use their points for these options. Those who purchased after March, 2011 do no have access to those options with their membership.

The most economical use of DVC rentals is for stays at DVC resorts. I'd just suggest doing your own homework before even contacting a member about any of the non-DVC reservation options.

I agree with Doc. Sure the option is there, but it would not be very cost effective and would likely even cost more than just booking directly, particularily on cruises.

Since March 2011, new DVC Members that do not purchase directly from Disney, cannot use their points for the options other than the DVC resorts, so just finding someone who would be willing to rent you the points for these options would be difficult.

These are all reasons, it is likely rarely done.
