Question about CRO vs MS?

We are going November 12-17th and trying to use points. We have been told that there is no availability at VWL, BWV and BCV and limited at OKW. (SSR is available though) My question is why can I book a Studio at VWL online through Disney but can't get availability through MS? How does this work? I know we are three months away, so does CRO have a stock of rooms for sale through the Website/CRO and if so at what point, if any, do those get released back to MS to book? Should we be on a waitlist in case those get released? Any advice would be appreciated!

DVC rooms are in two inventories -- one for member points usage and the other owned by Disney. Disney rents their rooms out through CRO. Since the busy times for WDW and DVC do not necessarily coincide, there is often availability in one of the inventories and not in the other.

No, CRO does not have any rooms held back- they do have rooms provided by DVC members who have used points for non-DVC options like the cruise and stays at other WDW/DL resorts, Concirege Collection, etc. In addition, any rooms still unreserved using points 90 days ahead are also made available to CRO. DVC has a small number of points used mostly when rooms are taken out of inventory for maintenance issues. If unneeded for that purposr, CRO could also rent those for cash reservations.

At this point, the rooms available thru CRO in November are most likely from DVC points used by members for these other options and will not be available for stays on points (since points have already been used to make them available).

You should deifnitely get yourself on the waitlist or make a reservation at whatever is available now - at least you'll have a reservation someplace using points. If the waitlist comes thru, you can change the reservation to that resort.
